It happened to me too recently. I was concentrating too much on the screen and looked up to see my Mini-2 (flying backwards) a bit too close to a tree for comfort, it was flying a bit lower than I thought and unfortunately I didn't manage to stop it in time before the inevitable happened.
It was about 50 to 60ft up, right at the top of the tree, too far for me to climb and the branches at that height are too thin anyway. I had some powerful binoculars, so I could make out exactly where it was, climbing wasn't an option.
Next I considered how to recover it, I thought of using my Mavic Pro with a hook, but the wind was getting up, so I was concerned that would just lead to losing them both.
My next idea was to shake the tree, but it was just a bit too big for me to do that easily, so I went home and came back with a long rope to put some of my past rope rescue skills in to practice. I didn't climb the tree, but I used a 1lb fishing weight fastened to the rope to get it as high up the tree as possible, I tied a slip-knot in this end because I couldn't climb high enough to tighten it, a slip-knot would just tighten itself, then I wrapped and tied the other end of the rope to a low point on a stronger tree nearby, I tensioned the rope as much as possible and tied it off.
When I was happy with the tension, I pulled repeatedly on the middle of the rope span as hard as I could, setting up a swaying motion in the offending tree. It took a few attempts to get the rhythm right, but eventually the drone landed gently in the moss and soft brush at the base of the tree, what a relief.
There was absolutely no damage to the drone and it still flies and operates perfectly, but a lesson was definitely learned, for a while I didn't think I was going to get it back, and that was a sickening feeling, so pleased that I did recover it in the end.
