So as I type, my Mavic 2 Air is up in a tree. I borrowed my friends Mavic 2 Pro, tied a softball to It and trying to dislodge my drone but couldn't.

Its a good 2-3 stories up. 40% chance of rain tomorrow night. May call the FD to see if they are bored.

Or I may just go on Craigslist and buy another since I have 2 batteries left. What other drones are the batteries from the Mavic Air 2 compatible with?

Could you attach a hook and line to the Pro via a weak tether, such that the Pro can break the tether, then see if you can snag the the Air 2 with the hook. If so then break the tether and pull the Air 2 down using the line?

Stuck my mini 2 in a tree last year - mixed up forward and backward while looking at the screen...
There was a team painting a church nearby using a lift. They offered to try to get it. It was just out of reach...they shook some branches they could reach...it fell right to the platform!
I gave them all the cash I had - $50!
The mini2 still works fine. These things are sturdy?

Got my Mini 2 stuck in a tree. Flowering (non-fruiting) Mulberry. Luckily just needed a step ladder to get it out.

Done that with my Spark and a tree climber sorted it for me. I had launched from under a tall tree as it was so hot (once in a decade occurrence here!) and hey ho an RTH was sparked. It came back perfectly and landed in the tree “perfectly”(too inexperienced to cancel RTH). Tried a cherry picker the next day but couldn’t find so stuck a forlorn note with my tel no on it. 2 weeks later phone call said he’d found did I want it back-£75 later it was in my hands again! Glad yours is back.

so here‘s an update.

Borrowed my buddy's MavPro attached a LONG line to it, and a bright neon softball at the end. The fishing line was 40 long and I had to come OVER the tree canopy to drop the ball low and use it as a cannon ball.

Using my smart controller, I was able to cannonball MY drone and it lodged a bit but didn't fall. Did more precision flying, some branch movement but no dice. Finally I really try to get the softball now stuck to LIFT the drone.....

and now, ladies and gents, we have TWO drones stuck in a tree......

Thankfully didn't rain last night. My tree guy came out this AM. Over the years, we've spent over 10K in tree removal with him. He's got a guy and a bucket truck going up in a few hours.

So maybe the Mavic Air 2 batt can be used in 2S? Anything else?

Lastly, how did it happen: under 400 ft but over the trees near my home. Lost sight, but then flew watching my controller. Suddenly I get a propeller error reading on the smart controller and In the camera view, I can see one of the legs of the drone and the prop spinning. My best guess is a bird hit it??? So I know its sinking and Im trying to get it back home to land but it ended up around the block....

My buddy was the one who suggested I give it a go. :)We were laughing about it.

So my tree guy went up in a bucket truck. It went up to a 60 foot max and he still had to climb a few branches. Both drones were $70 feet up. I

did manage to get one drone to tangle with the other. But the branches kept me from a successful rescue w the Pro.

Now on solid ground, my buddies Mavic Pro is unscathed.
My mavic air 2 has a rear left arm broken right near the motor and 1/2 propeller missing.

im speculating birdstrike caused the initial prop error and semi controlled crash into tree canopy.

It happened to me too recently. I was concentrating too much on the screen and looked up to see my Mini-2 (flying backwards) a bit too close to a tree for comfort, it was flying a bit lower than I thought and unfortunately I didn't manage to stop it in time before the inevitable happened.

It was about 50 to 60ft up, right at the top of the tree, too far for me to climb and the branches at that height are too thin anyway. I had some powerful binoculars, so I could make out exactly where it was, climbing wasn't an option.
Next I considered how to recover it, I thought of using my Mavic Pro with a hook, but the wind was getting up, so I was concerned that would just lead to losing them both.

My next idea was to shake the tree, but it was just a bit too big for me to do that easily, so I went home and came back with a long rope to put some of my past rope rescue skills in to practice. I didn't climb the tree, but I used a 1lb fishing weight fastened to the rope to get it as high up the tree as possible, I tied a slip-knot in this end because I couldn't climb high enough to tighten it, a slip-knot would just tighten itself, then I wrapped and tied the other end of the rope to a low point on a stronger tree nearby, I tensioned the rope as much as possible and tied it off.

When I was happy with the tension, I pulled repeatedly on the middle of the rope span as hard as I could, setting up a swaying motion in the offending tree. It took a few attempts to get the rhythm right, but eventually the drone landed gently in the moss and soft brush at the base of the tree, what a relief.

There was absolutely no damage to the drone and it still flies and operates perfectly, but a lesson was definitely learned, for a while I didn't think I was going to get it back, and that was a sickening feeling, so pleased that I did recover it in the end.
