I flew mine with 7°F and 13mph wind couple weeks ago with out any issues to the bird or RC. My phone did a force shutdown and one of my finger experienced frostbite. There were two jerking motion on the gimbal but other than that the MP2 performed like a champ.
I had the same thing happened to my new iPhone 8+. With 50% phone battery and 40% on the bird 2.7 miles out. At first I tried to fly blind bringing it home but it didn’t respond too well. Finally when battery dropped to 28% I just F it and press Return to home. Landed the bird with 4% battery...

I had it happened to me couple time as I was flying around the bridge. It was totally expected. I set the RTH higher than any nearby landmark. When it disconnect I just wait patiently for it to rise and clear the obstacle to regain signal.
Are you using 3/5 frames Burst Mode? Don't manually trigger the shot. After the shots, the gimbal unlocks causing minor image shift.
I normally see the following shift with my other birds:
With the M2P ... 6-8 pixels
With the M1P ... 12-14 pixels
With the P4Pv2 ... 6-8 pixels
