Appreciate the input. Sounds like I may want to consider using the iPad Mini for now, and then go to my S21+ if I replace it next year and just not trade it in this time.

Recently got my Part 107, and about to pull the trigger on an Air 2s. Saw a combo available with the Smart Controller, but I've seen several articles/videos that suggest that I might be better off with the default controller and the latest version of the Ipad Mini. Thoughts?

The drone, yes. The software in the controller, sometimes. The software on the phone or tablet, sometimes. The intersection of all those... is where I am suspecting the problem lies here. Hence my questions :)

So Google Maps is telling me this is in the UK. Is that correct? By any chance did you buy your MA2 in the US and it's possibly confused about where it really is? Presume you had updated the maps on your phone/tablet before the flight?

ipad Mini 5 256GB wifi only, with a Pgytech tablet mount. Wanted something I could use dedicated to the drone, but need a little more viewing space than just my phone would give - and didn't like the idea of having to go back and forth with the phone and making sure it was talking to the drone...

Just got my Air 2 a couple days ago. Stone Oak not far from Stone Oak Elementary. FWIW :)

I'd really like to go out there to get some footage of the old Railroad bridge there, but a bit concerned that on weekends there would be so many tubers that it would be questionable whether taking off/landing in the park is a good idea. Anyone else done much flying out that way?

Am using the iPad Mini myself which means it's still reasonably light, decent price, and works just fine with an Anker USB-C to lightning cable. The cable that comes with the controller is about an inch too short, or I would have used that.

So again, tablet not phone. WiFi was on, but not 4G since it doesn't have 4G. Could it's WiFi still be interfering? Would taking it up higher have helped? I thought that the extra distance might be an issue, but I can sort of see how that might make the angle better.

Sorry if I wasn't as clear as I thought, but what I'm hoping to achieve is something similar to what using an ND filter on my DSLR does for me. A little bit more ability to open the shutter (it's bright and hot here in TX right now), and a way to protect a much more expensive lens from scratches...

Had a successful first flight this evening, but it was a bit more hair raising than I'd expected (and my hair is pretty short). Made sure I had plenty of satellites showing, and had done a compass calibration. Set my home point and took off to about 100 feet. No problem. Went up another 50 feet...

Are there any UV filters for the Air 2? I normally use an ND 2 on my DSLR because of... well they're a little cheaper for my camera than a UV filter. I'm looking at getting the ND 4 as part of a pack of add-on filters as I suspect I'd be happier with a little less density on an ongoing basis...

Will only be taking video (though willing to be convinced otherwise) as I have a nice DSLR for stills. As JB points out, there is a guard that comes on the Air 2 but it doesn't have plastic or glass on it, so no protection for dust kicked up or such things that can scratch the lens. On my DSLR...
