Before sending it in, try some tests with a normal RC (GL6D10A) which is NOT running the latest firmware (the one with Multilink)

I wished I had access to one of these older controllers.

also of note, is that I have used two different cendence remote controllers and still this issue persists.

I suspect it's not a HW issue in the controller. Rather a FW issue. Are they both running the same FW?

Yes, I suspect they are both running latest firmware.

In GO4 app, press and hold the 3 bars on the top right corner until the firmware management screen appears.
Select the firmware version you want to downgrade.

I ended up sending the aircraft back to dji in California. Received an update today. No charge, replaced under warranty:
