Everything was going fine... flying in tripod mode around a play-park ... then flew near a car and all of a sudden I see the MP going straight up ... then noticed that there was a disconnect message ... I think MP went up 130+ feet (straight up) ..... then 10 seconds or so it said RETURN HOME and that's when the connection came back ... it flew back to take off which was only 30 feet away and I was able to cancel auto land and bring it down myself. Once back on the ground I lost connection again.

Question #1 --- I'm assuming it went to my RTH height ... which makes sense when it looses connection
(I thought it was 10 seconds of disconnect before it does this? -- it seemed to do it the instant the disconnect happens - is this normal or should it have stayed where it was for x secions vs elevator to the sky immediatley?)

Question #2 ---- Is there a way to tell from the log's what caused the disconnect - ie interference or .?

Did you have a obstacle avoidance turned on? If you did maybe his sense the car below, thought it was going to hit it, and took off vertically.

Sorry for my poor grammar. I'm doing voice text and it doesn't work all the time.

RTH is auto initiated 3 seconds after the remote controller loses connection with the Mavic (or after 20 seconds if flying with a mobile device over Wi-Fi).

Check out your TXT flight log to see if it explains what happened. You can upload and view it online here. If you'd like other people to review and comment on your flight log, then please post a link back here after you upload it.

Thanks msinger .. Does the below text mean what I think it means? Obstacle avoidance kicked in - so it went high to RTH? Why would I get a disconnect when this happens? Is this normal? I also notice at 8m 5.8 a downlink restored -- does this mean a disconnect? could this also be due to obstacle avoidance.

It says ascending to avoid obstacle twice so maybe I was right.

Yes -- that was close to a car ... but why the disconnect? I assumed obstacle avoidance would do just that... avoid the obstacle... not fly to my RTH altitude? Does obstacle avoidance automatically disconnect the radio to mp?

What i'm trying to ascertain is whether or not the behavior was expected IE - avoidance kicked in and then I immediately was disconnected from the MP? OR is this not supposed to disconnect and the disconnect is due to the problematic dji go app on android? Either way I will turn off obstacle avoidance if and when I do tripod//close to objects etc... In this case if it had shot up two feet over it would have careened with a street light ... so could have been quite a mess.

Yeah - Would love to know if anyone has experienced this before when "RTH: Ascending to avoid obstacle" occurs. The fact that my disconnect occurred at the same time is what has me questioning.

It would be tough to say without seeing your entire flight log.

Sorry to suggest something so simple, but it is easy to forget to fold out the antennas.

Combined with being near automobiles, that may be enough to give a weak signal, which could then trigger the RTH behavior. RTH can be configured to ascend to avoid obstacles.

I think that's what it did .. ie ascend to avoid the parked vehicle. No one was in the car so dont think it was cell interference. Antenna's were unfolded and i was less than 3 feet from the MP when it skyrocketed.. My replacement flymore kit (long story, first flymore was missing the flymore part) so I'm trying to decide if I keep this MP ... or keep the one that came in my second kit due to this and other disconnects. I was feeling confident yesterday at flight 3... since first two were good to go - assumed tripod mode would be anything but eventful.

I'd also like to know what the log messages mean

Downlink Restored - does this mean a disconnect happened and was restored between rc and mp or rc and phone? What code in the log would represent the latter?

Normally, the Mavic sends new flight data down to the remote controller every 0.1 second. When there is a gap longer than 0.1 second, my log viewer displays that message to alert you of the data loss.

Even though when I got my MP three days ago I updated the firmware but when I connected today and I looked at general status it said update was needed but had no option to dl anything. This time I updated both controller and MP in dji assistant (or at least I think I updated both... was hard to tell what update/s were for what but it said 15 minutes for both and low and behold it took 15 min so I'm guessing both got updated). Took my original MP back out for a few test flights... this time using a nib note 4 (I have 4 of these nib from back in the day) and both flights, albeit in beginner mode were fine - no disconnects. I'm not sure I want to try tripod mode again at that location. Another thing I changed was my RTH distance... for this take off point 90 meters is not needed and when my MP went skyward yesterday it was hard to see and being new to having my flying objects so high up added to the tension to get it back. 60 feet seems to be more than high enough to avoid any obstacles.

At this point I'm thinking that I'll keep this MP as my dji care is registered to it's serial and other than that obstacle avoidance and disconnect everything has been 'ok. ...then will return the NIB MP from my second attempt at a full flymore kit.
