4g Dongle

Hi all,
Has anyone tried and successfully used a 4g usb dongle with the Smart Controller?
I’ve seen it can be done, but according to what I have read, to use a 4g Dongle on an android based device you have to root it. I have also read rooting a SC is not possible. So I was wondering if anyone had managed to get one of these working and if so how?
