I am not sure what people are thinking. Are they going to put the vids on their phone and show friends and co-workers "Look! I flew over the game and took this video!" I mean , So What? I give them the Mr. T "Get away from me fool!"

It was less of thinking and more of a "hold my beer" process.

A lot of people who do this are less informed about what could happen. If you are a member of this site or anything like it, you are more informed than the guy who bought a drone on sale at Best Buy.

You beat me to the punch. Many people go out and buy a drone with no comprehension of what they are allowed to do. Even if it is spelled out in the instructions, many would miss it. Ignorance of the law will not stand up in court, so anyone engaging in any new activity should investigate to see what laws or regulations may pertain to them, no matter how innocent they feel the activity may be. It's like thinking you can go out and buy a car and start driving without a license or insurance.

Maybe it’s time for an expanded version of the Trust Test that you have to pass prior to purchasing a drone, along with the potential penalties for flying where and when you are not supposed to.

You’ll never prevent some idiots from breaking the rules, but this might help quite a few people.

Every new drone owner that I speak to, tell me they didn’t know these rules existed. Just a thought.

It's the "Trust" part of the Trust Test that is the failure point. Look at the "range test" videos that idiots used to post about how far they were able to cover with their drone. Most of those idiots knew the difference between VLOS and BLVOS and did it anyway.

A major problem is anyone can buy a drone in the US. Mom and Pop buys one for their kids, or any joe blow just wants to buy one because they look cool. Some of the above violations are 107, others are uninformed. So there is a large number of drone owners that have no idea of any rules. I always thought that units sold in the US should have a warning sticker on the box advising to read FAA rules if purchased. Similar to the warning on cigarettes. DJI will not put any notice in the box as they are sold worldwide. However, they could pass a law in the U.S. that sellers place a standardized sticker on them prior to the sale. Then no one would have an excuse of ignorance.

Laws are only made for the honest people and for prosecutors to have a punishment criteria.

America is a free country, are you suggesting the government orders private business to apply government warning labels on their product in order to legally sell them in the country?

Drones and cigarettes, is that where we are? How many people have drones killed and why would you think the "millions of people killed by cigarettes" label needs to go on a drone box. What's next, put the TRUST in the drone start up menu which you have to take and pass in order to get to the next step to activate the drone? You have to know that won't work, right?

Do you have to show a driver's license in order to buy a car? Lots of people are killed by car, does the government require you to possess a license in order to buy a car from the dealership, does that car has big warning label on it advising you to read the driver's handbook.....(it's in the car manual....and surprise, it doesn't work either).

There are already plenty of drone warnings all over the website, in the box, on the box, in the Fly app, during the flight....that's not the problem. I'm not against people learning the rules, I'm not against safety or keeping people safe....I'm against additional government rules and regulations and more laws that don't help and ultimately will end up being escalated and abused and hurting everybody. We need less rules, not more.

I'm only suggesting a notice that if buying a drone to refer them to the FAA website to learn what they need to know for the safety of others, and to hopefully keep them from doing something stupid, i.e., fly over a major sporting event, fly in controlled air space, or a TFR. Where their lack of knowledge or ignorance won't land them in jail or with a huge fine..

what I have noticed, now that I know what to look for, is the same thing that happened to professional photography.
Someone buys a drone, doesn't even adjust the picture settings, does a couple of at night over a municipal shots, puts a giant brand in the corner, and puts it on all the facebook groups saying, hey, this is what I do! Message me if you like this!

Meanwhile, I am buried in books and rules and oh, I need a strobe and

It's getting frustrating.

Another logical fallacy argument. You don't need a license to buy a car, but you do need one to drive one on public roads.
