Can this ultimately affect drones that fly over another person's property simply based on principle?

That palm trees are not native to CA, and do not support the city's climate action goals apparently means that all palm trees all over San Diego are now at risk of removal, and the City will use any excuse to remove them, including FAA height clearances!
Wow. That's reading a lot into the removal of 20 trees in response to a request from the FAA. Suddenly ALL palms in the city are subject to removal for ANY excuse! Those climate action goals must be downright subversive!

The same could be said for non-native Norway Rats in New York City. They define many neighborhoods in NYC and thrive in a variety of habitats. Their nativity should be irrelevant. They've been part of the environment for hundreds of years. That the city wants to eradicate them in the interest of public health and safety is abhorrent.
Seriously? Comparing rats to palm trees that are naturally associated with warm, coastal environments like southern CA, and are quintessential symbols of tropical vacations, is patently absurd.

No, it was the City's justification of their removal to the citizens of San Diego , which was based upon their own agenda, which has "climate action goals of removing air pollution, reducing stormwater runoff, and creating a more sustainable and resilient San Diego" at the expense of destroying everything that has made the city enjoyable in the past. It's part of a recent pattern of destruction. Cramming in above ground powered trolley lines, blocking revered bay views, after previously undergrounding all power lines, in the name of unneeded mass transit improvements, just to justify obtaining $10 billion in federal matching funds, and now tearing the city apart for a Toilet to Tapwater PURE WATER project, while implementing traffic calming measures everywhere to make traffic worse, while pursuing their pipe dream of everyone biking to work by converting traffic lanes and on street parking into unused bike lanes, and saving the planet. LOL!

So, you're not a fan of their efforts to meet that goal or the goal?

Is the city's claim that the FAA requested that the 20 trees be removed false? Or did the city somehow pressure to FAA to make the request?

Suffice it to say that their version of a sustainable and resilient San Diego isn't mine, nor that of the majority of long time San Diego residents, who wanted San Diego to stay San Diego, rather than become southern Los Angeles or northern Tijuana. Unfortunately, that train has already left the station, and the irreversible destruction has already taken place. During the Trolley expansion, widening of impacted roads to accommodate the increased traffic obstruction caused by rerouting traffic around the trolley stations was considered, but ultimately rejected, because it was incompatible with their goal of obstructing traffic to encourage more trolley ridership. That the predicted trolley ridership to justify the 5 years of decimation that preceded its opening hasn't met with goals is "unfortunate." Ballot measures to increase trash collection fees that underestimated the actual cost by 50% are deemed "honest mistakes" rather than a calculated bait and switch. Not mailing a protest over the proposed trash fees is deemed an approval. Lots of shady stuff going on with long range consequences.

Sounds reminiscent to the line from the movie Judge Dredd:
"Eat recycled food. It's good for the environment and OK for you."
