First off, my cactus is bigger than yours and now it's 50-years older… This cactus is located on the way to Flat Iron Peak in the Superstition Mountains. My brother-in-law, (wife's sister's husband) owned land that butted right up to the park lands and going to visit him and his family was like a trip cross country.I was in Phoenix last month.
I lived in Glendale, AZ in the early '70s and back then Glendale and Phoenix sort of merged together, but when we traveled to Scottsdale, or Tempe, or Mesa, or Apache Junction, it was all separated by dessert. Each town its own separate oasis… No houses, no sub-divisions, and no-7-11s. It was over 70 miles to his place and you had to be very careful of dry washes as they had few bridges crossings then… Now, it all one big Mega-metropolis and if you miss the "Welcome to…" or "Leaving…" signs, you do not know went from one place to another…
