Recently I crashed my Air 2 from about 6 feet, no major damage except to my pride (thank God) and joy. This is because I stupidly set it to parallel instead of trace and for some reason it decided to rotate (Move sideways) around my target into a tree and got stuck in the branch / leaves.

I now know not to employ Parallel unless its absolutely clear.

A new thought has come to mind, was that would it be better to track with the propeller guards ON? I know its not a cure for stupidity, and wont prevent every leaf or branch but at least if it does go sideways there is a barrier? Will it just hit until it drops?

Usually I'm just tracking my son learning to ride his bike, he's still rather slow, like just maybe 10-12km/h, nowhere near speeds that require full tilt on the drone.

Any thoughts?

Haven't used Active Track as yet as still in lock down in UK. Tried Atti mode and managed to wreck two blades on a tree trunk and also a wall. Trying in too small a space. So now have blade guards and feel much happier in the confined space. In my defense it was blowing a fair bit, but need actual practice out in a field not a garden. GPS is great but I want to be able to control the drone in any mode for safety, especially if things go wrong. So +1 for blade guards at present!

Honestly,
Other than ego & pride... I don’t understand why propeller guards aren’t always used.

Yes, it may make you feel like you have training wheels on your drone. But I bet you won’t feel so dorky when you slam into a wall. ??

Well, they do impair the aerodynamics of the drone, especially when there is wind against the drone.
