I've programmed the "Sport Mode" switch mode to "ATTI" (sorry I don't have the link handy, but @sar104 started it I believe). I've generally enjoyed flying in ATTI mode from time to time to develop skills, but today discovered a really valuable use for it.
I was going to fly south to the local ski area, but winds all day had been from the North at 10-15 kts. I waited until late afternoon and took off, climbed straight up to around 400', then on an impulse, switched to ATTI, let the A/C drift, and observed the speed and direction of the A/C.
Instant real-time winds aloft information!
I never knew the gps must still be keeping track of it, even though the system isn't letting GPS "drive the boat".
