I’m happy that this was resolved. Maybe someone can dissect it to find the sh1tty GPS chip that DJI is using to delay home point and satellite acquisition? 😆😆

"Please ask me any questions I’d be happy to clarify anything for you!"

What will you do with the drone?
I am working with Philip currently on that and right now the best is probably going to be able to do is force an eBay return for stolen goods sold to me. Anything other than that and I’m out $800. I provided the drone serial number to Philip and he is checking everything out. Thanks

I believe Nathan and he needs to raise a complaint to eBay and the seller he bought it from. They stated in their listing that they acquired it in a trade and they didn’t repair it as they have no parts.

Nathan says he has checked with DJI and confirmed the drone is indeed locked. I personally have contacted DJI to verify. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I understand that when a drone is locked it means it has been replaced. The only drones that have been replaced which are still out in the public will be flyaways and therefore lost property. They can only be flown if you don’t log into an account which I think heavily limits its use.

I see two scenarios here:

The original owner crashed it and claimed for a whole new drone with DJI care refresh saying it was a flyaway. This seems unlikely as the replacement cost is close to $1200; sending a broken Mavic 3 cine to DJI costs just $240 to get replacement sent to you.

The original owner did have a flyaway and had to spend the $1200 to get a new one. The flyaway was found by someone who sold it to the original eBay seller who then sold it on.

The original seller “wadesdrones” (Wade’s Drones | eBay Stores) seem to specialise in used drones. This surprises me as I would have thought they would know you can’t repair a locked DJI drone, therefore saying they didn’t repair it as they didn’t have the parts is rather suspect.

Now I am no legal US legal expert, I am English for starters, but my research tells me that most if not all US states have similar laws about found property. In Arkansas where wadesdrones are based, as it’s value is over $1000 it is classed as a class D felony. With their experience with selling used DJI drones I can’t believe they wouldn’t have known what they were selling on to Nathan.

Nathan said he ended the listing early to sell to highest bidder then cancelled their bid. Doing it this way meant it avoided the fees eBay charge you for cancelling a listing with bids.

If any of this is incorrect please let me know.

Thanks.

The Wades Drones guy said he hadn’t tested it, so maybe that’s true or not I do not know. Also it should be added the guy who I ended and sold to the highest bidder is a scammer who has won multiple of my auctions and not paid I am blocking him. I do not know as I said the origins but will be attempting a eBay money Back guarantee to get the drone back to the seller who hopefully with his new knowledge will keep passing it on backwards till the original finder can be forced to return it somehow: at least that’s what I hope. Thank you guys

So, for those starting from the end (like I did), let me summarize this thread to save you the time going through all the posts (all items cut and paste verbatim, except I may have taken liberties with Philips part). My own emphasis added:

You are a pansy who isn’t living in the real world insulting me and telling me I’m a bad person for what? Selling a drone that I found lol what an idiot!"

"Well guess what- eBay won’t listen to you because everything is correct with the listing. Nothing is hidden. So when all you idiots report it as a scam guess what will happen?? Nothing. Absolutely nothing because of the status of my account and the honesty in the listing"

What you just did is like taking a video of a politician speaking saying something like “I love America and hate racism.” And editing it to be “ I love racism”. If you are going to recap the conversation recap it right

See Philip’s post for the real story

Oh did I? I read every post and cut and paste from them, verbatim (except for Philips), in the same sequence too - nothing is made up, anyone can see it all above. And YOU call ME a liar?! Is there no end?! You said you were selling a drone found by a friend and swore up and down all of that was truthful, insulted everyone who dared to say you weren't telling the truth, then Philip said that's illegal, and then you came clean, you were reselling something you bought, not "found" by a "friend". Owning up AFTER you get caught is NOT the same as a confession, and shouldn't be treated with the same deference. Also, which post from Philip. The one where he said this? :

"The listing has come down and Nathan has told me there is no “friend who found it”. He told me that he actually bought it from another eBay listing for parts and was trying to sell it on to make a profit. There are of course questions about his methods of flipping it, as he was using a very dishonest listing."

I’m not defending my dishonesty in the description. That was wrong. I had no idea it was some crime to pass on a drone someone found. Once he informed me of that I happily provided him with the relevant details including serial number. But in your “story” you completely ignore every part with what actually happened with the drone. Im not some bad dude who finds and sells drones for profit. I detailed exactly WHY I made the false description in one of my posts and then explained the reality of the situation where I had done nothing wrong in acquiring the drone and then selling it. Once Philip informed me it would be illegal to keep passing the drone on, I ended the listing and will be returning the drone to the seller. Just tell the whole story if you are gonna tell it. Include the parts about what actually happened not your doctored up version which has me insulting people for calling me a scammer, which I still am not due to, while the description was incorrect saying how I got it, the status of the item is exactly how I described it to be. But anyways you have me insulting people then Philip saying it’s against the law to SELL FOUND GOODS that are worth so much. Once I heard Philip say this I knew the situation was escalating so I told him the real origins. The only things I have done wrong here are lie about where I obtained the drone. That’s it- I never found it and I paid legitimately for it so everything is getting settled again

Philip said it’s illegal to sell a found item of that price. I never found the item, I purchased legitimately. He just informed me it wouldn’t be good to pass it on. I am returning it because it it technically classified as stolen goods. I messed up a small bit and it snowballed and it looks a lot worse than it actually is. I’m man enough to admit I made a mistake, it’s my bad. The people I insulted were suggesting that It was bad morals to find and sell the drone (which I had no choice but to argue this point to keep up my facade), or they were saying I was a scammer which I am not. If I wasn’t made aware of the nature of the offense which the actual finder of the drone made, I would have sold it and the buyer would have been satisfied because it would match the listing descriptions for its condition. I made some mistakes here and I’m sorry, but at least tell the whole story and don’t crop it and leave out crucial parts about how I actually bought the drone myself

I never found the item, I purchased legitimately
You can't rewrite history that's laid out in forum posts. We know that NOW you were re-selling something you purchased, and that was the truth all along, but what you were saying in your listing and on here at FIRST, and vehemently defending with quotes like "You cannot point out anything in my listing untruthful. NOTHING" was that it was found by a friend. Your listing STILL states "I do not know the origins of the drone and my friend only said he got lucky and found it.". I quoted all those comments you made, in the sequence you made them, defending that you were telling the truth and how dare people think otherwise. It was only when Philip pointed out that what you claimed might be breaking the law, THEN you came clean that it wasn't found, that you purchased it, and apologized to everyone.

The crucial part for YOU, certainly, is that you bought the drone rather than found it, otherwise you could be in legal hot water. Thing is, we (the forum) don't really know you from Adam, and don't have any skin in the game about your potential troubles. The crucial part for EVERYONE ELSE who is not you on this forum (to whom I said I was summarizing) and who viewed your listing, is how you lied and came on here and defended those lies vehemently. That's the crucial part for us; obviously, not for you. I updated the post.

It's good to read what actually transpired.
It sounds like your rectifying your predicament.
1 thought that comes to mind is if you get proof of a legal sale from the original owner to the ebay seller you bought from.
That seller should have something for a receipt of purchase from the original owner.

If that seller cant/wont provide that, then ownership is suspect and how that seller obtained the drone is questionable.
