Auto flight modes without vision sensors?

Is it possible to use things like active track with the front sensors switched off? It used to work but recent firmware updates I can't seem to activate any auto modes other than tripod mode without turning on the sensors. Issue is mine permenantly thinks there's something 2 ft infront
