I bought the mini yesterday at Best Buy. Flew it a couple of time really enjoyed it.
But rightaway I noticed the micro usb plug was really tight on the charge and link cable. The third time I plugged it in the port pin broke.
So now I’m going to try to return it. I have dji care but they won’t repair controllers. So if I can’t return itI’m screwed. I called a couple of repair places and they want 90.00 and some say get a new one.
The charging cable was the worst trying to plug in. I think this is weak spot and they are going to see a lot of these damaged. I did plug it in the right direction
I’m not a newbie. If your a newbie you have to be careful because the port issquare not rounded on one side. You have to look at the cable that goes into you phone to see the right orientation. That has to face the correct way to plug in your phone.

I knew it! Micro-A (square), not B (trapezoid). Same is true on M2 remote.

Here's the technical reason:
A ports are for hosts/initiators, like a PC.
B ports are for peripherals/targets, such as an external hard drive, mouse, printer, etc.
So when you connect a mobile device, the RC is the host, or master, the mobile device is the slave, similar to connecting your phone to your PC.

The problem is with devices that can go both ways. That's probably why they came up with the C standard and form factor.

Because of the geometry of the Micro-A socket, a B plug could also go in it to serve as a target device.

always use a small coloured sticker or some model enamel paint ,on the top of the plug so you know it is the right way around before you plug it in and make sure it goes in square it will loosen up a bit after several uses it has been an issue on all controllers for a long time

There is no bottom USB port. The same port is due for both things. I did connect correct way. It was very tight on both charging cord.

I had already marked it. That was not the problem. Yes I had a phantom that was tight. But this one was way to tight.
The cable for the lightning connector was fine. It was the charging cables that didn’t seem right.

what’s a b plug ?

The port doesn’t look like that. It’s just square. So there’s no way to know what direction to plug the goes into it unless you look at the phone plug first. And it’s really tight. Like it’s doesn’t want to fit in the hole.

Ok. Missed the part that you were already taking it back to BB.
I buy all my drones from BB just for that reason. Bummer that it happened!!

I agree with @Mori55. I would take it back to Best Buy

Only problem is they charge a 75.00 restocking fee for electronics. That sucks.
But ordered another from them. I told them it was defective, they said you opened the box. I said how would o know if it was defective if I didn’t open the box ?

I believe they only charge the restocking fee if they find the device is actually not defective.

Nope. They never even opened the box. Said any phone or drone had a restocking fee I the box was opened. Believe me I tried. They said it was a corporate policy.

Different USB connectors. It is very unusual to encounter A connectors that are not full size. A micro-A socket can accommodate a B plug, but very easy to get it upside down and damage the socket.980px-USB_2.0_and_3.0_connectors.svg.jpeg

There is text in the photo. Not sure why the background is black. It's supposed to be white.

Left column is type A, middle column is type B, last column is USB 3.0 A, B and micro-B.
Top row us full size USB, 2nd row is Mini, bottom row is Micro.
