My grandson is a very smart 5 year old, reading at 3rd grade level (home schooled). He asked if he could fly one of my drones. I have had him fly one, limiting height and distance - with success. Now I’m in a winter home and need to buy another as he’s coming to visit and wants to fly a drone. Looking for suggestions - the Fly, the Neo, etc. Stuff that’s cheap and not so easily broken as my mini 4 pros. I also want it to some with an RC2.

Another vote for the NEO.

It flies fine with a phone but paring it with the RC-n3 controller really expands the capabilities.

Although the NEO is capable of FPV with goggles and a Motion controller remote, they are not needed to enjoy the NEO.

NEO...would be a great learning Drone!

I agree. The NEO would be a good starter drone. It's props are completely cover and protects one from direct contact .

Since the Mini 4 Pro is out and the RC 2 is a requirement, your best options are likely going to be the Neo or Flip.

If you're planning on flying outdoors, I'd personally recommend the Flip. However, at five years old, I'm sure he'd be just as impressed with the Neo.

Neither model is indestructible, of course, but they should hold up better than the Mini 4 Pro since both have covered props. If you're able to fly in a location with absolutely no obstacles, then you shouldn't have any trouble with him accidentally crashing.

I LIKE THE NEO ,HARD TO MESS UP,TAKES A LICKIN AND KEEPS ON TICKEN
Thanks. I’ve watched some videos. Does the volume of noise make it less appealing? I think we’d be either in the house where people would understand or out in a field where no one is around. So I think I answered my own question.

a little bit late but no body really cares about the noise although inside would be a bit of an issue and most people will ignore it really the only attention I've drawn while flying my drone which is a bit bigger and louder than the mini and neo is when somebody involved in an event notices it and wants to try to be spotted in the video or something. also hows the little guy enjoying the drone
