There won't be any noticeable effect on your drone flying, just as there has never been any every other time people have spread such warnings.Attention to solar storms could confuse our onboard GPS and more.
Sene is talking about solar activity these days and before flying, check out the UAV forecast app. (KP index).
100% agree. There won't be any noticeable effect on your drone flying, just as there has never been any every other time people have spread such warnings.
I have been working with satellite GPS positioning in land survey mapping since around 1993. Occasionally there are solar storm warnings that have the potential to interfere with satellite signals to Earth and so warnings about positional accuracies for anyone relying on GPS coordination are issued with good reason. There is common sense to be applied here: if there are GPS warnings issued, look for them and take heed. The DJI drones that rely on GPS signals for waypoints, navigation and RTH accuracy should be used with due caution until any chance of signal interference is gone. There won't be any noticeable effect on your drone flying, just as there has never been any every other time people have spread such warnings.
I use various Gps'r almost every day and my experience is that during higher Kp periods even 4 -5 Gps accuracy IS noticeably affected
Here is another bit of information for Drone Pilots to be just aware of.
What Is the Kp Index and Why Does It Matter to Drone Pilots?
Good looking out, for the rest of who may not always check the Kp.thank you all! This was just my curiosity about the behavior of the Gps of our drones .. with a high Kp.
Can you give a little more information about what kind of position inaccuracy you see?I use various Gps'r almost every day and my experience is that during higher Kp periods even 4 -5 Gps accuracy IS noticeably affected
Thanks, I have always taken this phenomenon into consideration before flying. In my opinion, safety during the flight is the first thing.Good looking out, for the rest of who may not always check the Kp.
Safety is always important, but so far, out of millions of drones flying, there has not been a reported incident that can be attributed to GPS issues caused by high solar activity. Thanks, I have always taken this phenomenon into consideration before flying. In my opinion, safety during the flight is the first thing.
