Hello all, just wondering if I should bring my new Mavic to Vegas on my holiday next week? We are planning on renting a car and tripping around to the grand canon, lake mead, hoover dam and other conservation areas of interest for a few days. Not even sure I can legally fly it there being from Canada. But would sure like to! Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks
Steve

Terrific aerial opportunities. But check the maps like B4UFly, Kittyhawk, etc. However, I'm pretty certain that no drones are allowed in National Parks (eg. the Grand Canyon). Vegas at night would be very cool.

Vegas here...... tons of great opportunities around here. When it comes to national parks and federal conservation areas like Red Rock Canyon, the rule is you can’t take off or land within the boundaries. There’s nothing saying you can’t fly over them if you can get close enough. As for the dam, I would steer clear of there. Not only is it the lake mead recreation area, there is a crap load of security everywhere

The big Vegas casinos are right next to the airport. I would say it's better not to worry about whether you can fly near them, especially because there will also be large crowds of people below. You can get better pictures with a camera. But if you are driving to Grand Canyon there is a ton of open space in the middle of nowhere with beautiful scenery. Especially if you have time to explore off the main highways. I would just pick a few side roads that look like they go near some river or gulch. We used to drive all over Nevada on dirt roads, and just camp on the roadside sometimes - but it might be a bit cold this time of the year. As far as the National Parks just enjoy them with a camera, and don't even worry about flying even from the park boundaries. The borders are miles from the main attractions.

I should have taken my mavic to Vegas.. Polly would have had A better time
What goes on in Vegas ...is code for (your money)....Stays in Vegas.!
.
Take it to the Neon Museum see if you can fly it around there.
Now that would be cool

Ok sold on taking it! we have a car rental and will definitely take in some back roads. I will have airmap as well so I'll find somewhere for sure. Thanks for all the responses.
Cheers and Happy New Year..
