The pass mark for the Canadian Basic drone pilot exam is 65%, i agree, it’s not so easy but i pass at the first try with a good preparation. Both my wife and I passed the basic exam on our first try. I passed the advanced exam on my second try. We both spent some time studying and have kept up to date on the new drone laws. There are definitely some questions that are difficult and appear to have little relevance to flying a drone.
During the basic exam there is enough time to "google" some of the questions if you have to, but there is not enough time to google most of them. If you spend some time studying and are able to confidently answer over half the questions without referring to any material you should have time to google some of the ones you are unsure of. There are some questions that you may not be able to find a definitive answer to even if you use a search engine.
Given that the pass mark for the basic is 60%, the bar is fairly low, but with no preparation, you could easily fail the basic. One of my work colleagues recommended the book "Unmanned Textbook for UAS Studies" that I ordered from a company in Alberta and studying it definitely helped.
I would make some effort to study to prepare for the basic exam, if that is all you require, before I would pay to attend formal training.
Good luck.
The advanced exam looks difficult, and you have to do the flight review on top of it. What did you use to study for the advanced exam? It looks overwhelming from the links provided and research on Google :\
Is there any study books for the advance test that I can buy? I tried one time but failed badly
I doubt many could pass the Advanced Exam without studying. I had heard from a colleague that had passed the exam that the book "Unmanned Textbook for UAS Studies" had been the most helpful thing he had studied in relation to passing the exam.
It is not available electronically and costs about $90 Cdn. I ordered it and spent sometime studying it before taking the exam, and passing it. Studying the book definitely helped.
Here is a link to where it can be ordered from: Aviation Publishers Unmanned: Textbook for UAS Studies SC
