Any Canadian drone pilots taken the basic exam? Is it as difficult as some people state. My opinion is the govt wants you to take the course and it's not available in a lot of locations and it can be very expensive

Both my wife and I passed the basic exam on our first try. I passed the advanced exam on my second try. We both spent some time studying and have kept up to date on the new drone laws. There are definitely some questions that are difficult and appear to have little relevance to flying a drone.

During the basic exam there is enough time to "google" some of the questions if you have to, but there is not enough time to google most of them. If you spend some time studying and are able to confidently answer over half the questions without referring to any material you should have time to google some of the ones you are unsure of. There are some questions that you may not be able to find a definitive answer to even if you use a search engine.

Given that the pass mark for the basic is 65%, the bar is fairly low, but with no preparation, you could easily fail the basic. One of my work colleagues recommended the book "Unmanned Textbook for UAS Studies" that I ordered from a company in Alberta and studying it definitely helped.

I would make some effort to study to prepare for the basic exam, if that is all you require, before I would pay to attend formal training.

Teh Canadian aviation regulation (CAR) is an important document to study, i still research more source to learn by myself but the advanced certficate is a pain to optain.
I don’t plan to spend thousand of dollars at specialised aviation school, it’s a hobby and Transport Canada believe that every drone pilot is millionaire...

You can also use "From the Ground Up" lots of questions are taken directly from that book.
