I know the MA batteries are "intelligent", but I'm old school and remember when batteries would develop "memories" if you recharged them a lot prematurely. I'm finding that using the last 20% of battery to charge up my phone with the adaptor is a pretty cool way to drain the battery all the way down. May not be scientific, but it helps me sleep better at night. Lol.

I mentioned that I am old school and remember when batteries would develop a "memory" when constantly being recharged at a certain point. The batteries would "think" that 20% was the low threshold (back in the day). I like to charge them all the way down to ensure a full cycle on the battery cell.

And while it used to be said that lithium-ion batteries did not suffer the memory effect, it appears they still do:

The Airdata site recommends this for the batteries now and again.

Battery Deep Cycle Discharge

When you deep cycle the battery, it also re-initializes the battery's internal software. Always allow a LiPo battery to cool completely before any recharge to help protect your battery and extend its life.

Slower Deep Cycle Method:

  1. Fly until battery level reaches 25%-30%
  2. Allow battery to cool completely to room temperature
  3. Put battery back in and turn on aircraft (optionally starting motors with no propellers) and allow battery to discharge until it gets down to 8%, or until the battery can no longer be turned on. Launch the DJI GO app to check battery levels.
Important: NEVER fully discharge the battery to 0% - it can cause permanent damage
Tip: With engines stopped, the battery seems to drain about 1% every 5 minutes or so
  4. Allow the battery to cool completely again to room temperature
  5. Recharge battery normally
Rapid Deep Cycle Method:
  1. Fly the aircraft outdoors until there is less than 8% of power left, or until the battery can no longer be turned on.
  2. Allow the battery to cool completely again to room temperature
  3. Recharge battery normally

I remember buying my first set of Ni-Cd batteries for my walkman in the 60’s, thinking this is the best invention ever.
The first nickel-cadmium Ni-Cd battery was invented over 100 years ago in 1899 by a Swedish inventor named Waldemar Jungner but didn’t hit the market until 1960’s

Would these directions also apply to the mini? Thanks

I was using a red transistor radio in the 60's & 70's. Don't remember the battery mfg. I want to say Rayovac.

This is quite contrary to what I've learned in the years I've been around LiPo, just saying
