Cheap used batteries

Resetting the charge cycles is definitely one of the steps when refurbishing batteries (putting in new LiPo cells)... unfortunately I'm not an expert in the procedure, but it can possibly be done with a cp2112 and the DJI battery killer app, all readily available for anyone.

It's like resetting the odometers on cars... big business, & doesn't require any rocket science... if you know how it's done, you know.

Interesting thought. For all the years I’ve seen posts regarding DJI batteries, I’ve not seen any information that mentions this type of process.
Have I missed something?
There is probably an EPROM on the PCB that records the charge cycles. With the right equipment an EPROM can be made to read anything you want it to.

With that said, you need to know the format in which to write the data so that the firmware can read it. That can be reverse engineered with moderate skill. However I would not be surprised if the data is encrypted to guard against fakes.

Given the relatively low value of the item, and the low volume in which it sells, I doubt that this is economically viable. Furthermore, as stated in the OP, the vendor is an authorized DJI dealer, making it less likely (though not impossible) to participate in such hanky panky.

I’ve purchased official refurb batteries from an authorized dealer for several different drones over the years, they’ve all worked great, couldn’t tell them from new.
