What device are you using, does it have magnates in it or the cover? Are you trying to take off from a metal surface?

It seems that check app and mag inter = compass calibration

Check App and Mag Interference can be 2 totaly separate issues.
First notification of Mag interference, change location, No concrete with rebar in it, etc., no metal on your person, phones, belt buckles etc., make sure the arms are unfolded.
What was your rear status led flashing? It gives you clues.....
