one member here told me "the less you calibrate, the better". Which i couldnt agree more. I calibrated my MP once since new and everything seems fine. (Knock on wood)

My question is, if you travel far from where you initially did your compass calibration, say between 100kl-200kl, would the app tell you to re-calibrate the compass or should you do it anyway even without being prompted?

Cheers!

It is a good idea to re-calibrate the compass if you have travelled say more then 150 kms or 100 miles.

i've got my mavic in Hong kong... flew there... few days later i flew to Shanghai, flews there, one week later flew in Seuol .. flew there !
NO COMPASS calibration ever done, since out of the box !!i checked values before every flight i had no signs and so i never made it !

IN SEOUL at the 4th flight i had compass error but i made a big mistake by using a metal hatch as take off point... !! this mistake aside i never needed a new calibration, so if your drone is fine just don't bother !

P.s. now i'm in Rome and i flew it several times and from Seoul to Rome no calibration...

Thanks for all the replies and the link. All very informative and great tips.

Another question and i dont wanna start another thread. I watched a video of a chinese guy who took off from his balcony from about 10 stories high (guestimate). As soon as he sent the mavic outside, it dropped. Im guessing the mavic got confused when all of a sudden the floor height change.

Would that same thing happen if say i take from a cliff or mountain top? Thanks guys!

No.

Check the date on that video. It sounds like an issue that occurred when the first Mavics were released into the wild.
