Confused re need for wi-fi connectivity

Hi all.

I am a new Mavic Pro user.
I am confused as to when, or if, I need internet connectivity in order to fly my Mavic.

The manual suggests that I need to activate through my DJI internet account at launch time.

Does this imply that I need to activate data on my cell phone (which I do not normally do) so that the Mavic has access to the internet. What if I am in the countryside where there is little, or no, internet connectivity?

What if I am using an iPad Mini and need to connect to the internet away from any wi-fi source?

I do realize that I will need to have wi-fi capability in order to download firmware updates.

After you activate your Mavic in DJI GO, you no longer need Internet connectivity. It can only be activated once.
