After a couple of days debating whether to take out DJI Refresh or go with a third part company for cover, I have opted to sign up with Coverdrone UK as they cover flyaways, etc and that is my biggest fear being a n00b.

Has anyone actually claimed with them during such an event as a flyaway or just any claim in general?

Previous experience with insurance companies has always been negative, pulling stuff out of thin air to avoid paying out.

Merry Christmas also to each and every one of you, this community is great!

PS: I did use the search function, however there wasn't much in terms of previously claimants :-)

Update: I took the plunge a purchased a yearly policy, hopefully I never have to find out if the cover works, much better safe than sorry though!!

For interest, how much is a policy, and are their tiers of cover based on model of drone ?

In the US I believe State Farm cover is the most common outside DJI Care Refresh, and it is usually the minimum charge of US$60 in most states there. (US$2.75/$100 cover, min $30 or $60 depending on state of residence.)

We have drone insurance available for professional licensed drone pilots only here in Australia (as far as I am aware), so good to see other places getting companies starting to offer this for drone owners.

It's generally supplied under a Personal Articles Policy, and you get one crack at it.
Once a claim is paid out the policy terms are complete, you are then uninsured and I believe they won't cover you again (or may do so reluctantly).

I've read so much about State Farm, they seem to have be the dominant drone insurance supplier in the USA!

I've paid £129.92 for a 1 year policy.

That covers my Mavic 2 Pro & Smart Controller and also £1,000,000 Public liability insurance (so if it flies into a building, vehicle etc.)

Main thing it offers which I was after is fly away cover, most policies I have came across demand a drone sent to the insurance to be replaced, this will cover me if for whatever reason the drone is a total loss.

Quite a policy premium, but having the PL cover is good for peace of mind.
Normally to get PL cover, you'd need to be a licenced UAV pilot, and possibly even have some sort of drone business.
Suppose it is covered for theft too, which sadly might be the highest risk you have.
Thanks for sharing the info, and hope you never need either the drone (crash / theft) or PL cover.
