Here in the UK there are situations where care-workers and Police have had to go into self-isolation due to flu-like symptoms - But, there are no testing kits available to confirm if they actually have Covid-19 or not. Some health experts are saying that we could have 50,000 + cases here currently, although there are just over 2,000 officially confirmed. Crazy times!
And now I see that NASA has observed some asteroids that will 'pass close' to the Earth this month!
What with Australia being on fire ...

Hey ole friend DC, been a while, huh. I've been playing off, Ham Radio, flying, garden, UKWIM? Got on and saw this thread, cool beans, and shout-outs world-wide.

Your WallyWorld thing made me remember: A friend, speeding, got pulled over couple days ago by trooper. He had his window down and coughing, breathing hard when said trooper came up. Troop did a 180 and yelled back "Slow down!" Now I just heard that Highway Patrol is not stopping speeders any more, just flashing red lights at them.

I agree. I just hope people will quit the hoarding around here and let the stores get back stocked. I'm looking into pre-ordering food for curbside pickup.

The state is suggesting we shelter in place at home and only drive for work, food, or medicine.

I noticed Yosemite NP closed along with a few others which seems a good idea.

I fly a lot of fixed wing stuff and yesterday we shut down our club flying site at one spot and other clubs are doing the same.

If you have a similar experience to us in Australia you will see the shelf stocks return to normal just as fast as the shortages appeared. The panic buyers have run out of storage space.

Haven’t really read every single post in this thread, so apologize if my thoughts are repetitive.
What is happening right now in the United States is media-induced mass hysteria. It’s the deliberate destruction of trillion(s) $$$ of wealth for a marginally flattened outbreak curve. At some point we have to ask ourselves when does the real economic destruction outweigh any good of somewhat containing the spread of this virus. At what point do we start asking which is worse? And why is it so socially unacceptable to bring that up? Why is everyone now an expert on the coronavirus and also a moral admonisher of those insufficiently “serious” about the outbreak? Just how much power exactly does the media have over us and our daily lives? Can we ask the question when is it appropriate to stop destroying people’s lives over this? Where is the end line? Should we have done ALL of this? Real people are going to experience real suffering for years to come, millions and tens of millions of people. Not because of the virus, but because we allowed the media and the government to press the “stop” button on a $20 trillion economy.

The death toll for the US just hit 300. In a country of 330 million. I watch the news, to know what the establishment wants me to think.

If you don’t trust the media perhaps you might consider taking note of what the epidemiology specialists have to say about the potential of this pandemic. Ignorance is our enemy here, hoping for the best letting it run its course is probably the worst approach.

Epidemiologists know viruses; they don’t know economies. Their word is not gospel, but it has to be taken as part of a whole, and the big picture can never get lost. A recession heavy and deep enough will for all intents and purposes be indistinguishable in the damage it wreaks across the country from a bad pandemic. Recessions cause death and suffering too. My suggestion would not be to just “let it run it’s course,” don’t really know where that came from. I am just suggesting that maybe, just maybe, there are other approaches that we could consider. Other countries are taking different steps. Some are quarantining the elderly (65+), being the most vulnerable population, and letting everyone else go to work as normal with heightened awareness and proactive measures about sanitizing, touching of the face, unnecessary crowds etc. the lock-step I see in the media and the government with complete lack of opposing views on the steps we have and are taking is concerning to me. Any time there is unanimous consensus and no debate on something my antennae pop up. Especially on something with the enormous consequences as shutting down the American economy.

On a side note, I’ve worked in healthcare for over 15 years now. I am still going to work every day because I have to, knowing full well that I am potentially exposing myself to this thing. So I assure you there is no “ignorance” going on here - what there is is perspective and healthy skepticism. Those things are important to have no matter what is going on. I am not bringing up these questions out of concern for myself or any kind of selfishness, healthcare is notoriously recession-proof. America could be burning and I would still have a job to go to. Recessions don’t affect me the way they do most people. I am concerned about the millions of people out there who don’t have the means to make it through a deep recession.

Maybe we are over-reacting some. But I see it kinda like the issue we have in our Drone Community. The folks that totally dismiss the drone laws and the folks that totally dismiss this pandemic are similar. They are the ones that are making things difficult for the rest of us. They are the ones that make the Governmental Restrictions necessary and the ones that complain the most about the restrictions.

Use common sense in both scenarios. And don't just consider how your actions affect you - think about how they can affect the community.

I don't worry so much about contracting this virus myself - I worry more about contracting it and then unknowingly passing it on to someone else.

It just seems to make sense to me that the more we do earlier on, the quicker things will return to normal.

Bless you for your work - stay safe! Front line people like yourself deserve a lot of credit. I am fortunate to be able to do my job from home. I feel terrible for all those that work in food service and other places where they cannot continue to work.

That's starting to become a concern. The observation that these kinds of conditions started to be seen from late November has been made both here and in Europe. I went down with something with the exact same symptoms in mid-December, and tested negative for flu. I'm now aware of numerous similar cases in the local population that were unusual and unexplained. Not definitive, and completely at odds with the accepted timeline of arrival, but there were no tests back then. And there are basically no tests available now, which means that the statistics are borderline useless.

I think the stats are more than borderline useless. Especially when calculate the death rate based on the number of people who have contracted it. I don't think they have good data yet on the number of people that have it. It sounds like there are lots of people that have it and don't know it so they can pass it on without knowing it. So to me, the statistics ARE useless at this point. Either way, people need to take this seriously and self isolate.

51 Drones on You Tube did a similar video. He was able to do one roll with a Mavic Mini and three rolls with a Mavic 2 Pro.

I have read all the posts and your thoughts are not very repetitive so far. Agreed that the media needs to cover something in addition to the virus but I don't think they are the reason for our economic issues. I listen to the media when they present information from knowledgeable people talking about the science of it. Not really concerned about how many more people have contracted it or died from it - more concerned about the truths of keeping it from spreading. The economy is collateral damage not the intended target for media or politicians.

As someone who was planning to retire in May, this situation is devastating for me because my 401K is shrinking by the minute. But I am still in a much better situation than many. I can work from home and still have a job. I feel awful for those that are losing their jobs or are on the front lines fighting this virus. I try to avoid complaining about the situation. This too shall pass!

Again, I thank you for your work on the front lines. You surely know more about the medical side of this than me. But I do disagree with you when you say this is a deliberate destruction of our economy. I am skeptical about a lot of what is going on but I can't go that far.

Think I hate it for the homeless the most.
I haven't really seen anything on them in the media
which I’ve about stoped watching. Pretty sure we all
have what we need to eat and can self isolate or we
wouldn’t be posting here.
We don’t have many here but have been all over and seen alot.
