I crashed my M2 Pro. Somehow the rear sensors didn't detect a tree, just as I was about to stop. I was capturing video & flying backwards. I was flying within line of sight, but was looking at Smart Controller Screen for composition, & flying in reverse when crash occurred. It was a remote area, above forest. I assume unit struck a tall tree. Thanks to smart controller I was able to locate unit. Is rear sensor less reliable than front sensors? Does the above description sound like anything that would void the Care Refresh Agreement? Please, no scolding, I'm still fairly new to this. Thanks.

Nope. No worries about it being void. If you have DJI Care Refresh and can recover your Mavic (or pieces of Mavic) to send in, DJI will swap it out for the fee specified in the agreement. So you're covered. Hopefully, the swap goes quickly and you can get back to flying soon.

No. Accidents like this are the whole purpose of having DJI Care Refresh.

When I was a scuba instructor, I was informed that our liability insurance was worthless if it was proved that a mistake had caused an injury or problem. Just thought I'd ask.

There are some things DJI Care Refresh doesn't cover. If you like to check out the details, read the Terms of Service at the bottom of this page.

Thanks. I did that. But I was checking to see if there were any hidden exclusions etc. I've had some weird experiences with insurance plans. But DJI is 100% so far.

Using the controller to find my drone lost in steep terrain/thick forrest, with huge trees, thick bushes, etc. wasn't easy, but the Go4 app led me to the crash site. Exceptional technology!

If you're going to be flying in locations like that a lot, you might want to consider attaching some type of tracker to your drone (like one of these) just in case it ever crashes/lands elsewhere after disconnecting from the remote controller. As you probably know, DJI Care Refresh can only be used if you can find your drone.

Good day! How do you that? In case it happen to me. Thanks!

Rear sensors are stereoscopic just as the front ones. However neither will reliably detect small branches so perhaps it detected the tree but encountered a twig in the way of prop. Did it at least warn you it was near an obstacle? It will detect and report an obstacle up to about 15 feet but will stop at about 3ft. Even in stop, AC will drift some due to its inertia. The faster you are moving, the longer the stopping distance.

Also make sure you haven't disabled obstacle avoidance. Sport mode turns it completely off. Only certain modes have the side sensors on. There's an indicator at the top of the screen showing the state. It might not show the actual state until liftoff.

Thanks. I don't use Sport mode. I have had excellent warnings/stops from sensors during forward motion. I rarely fly in reverse, but it seemed called for at this location. No beeps, no stop, just saw crash on the screen. It could well have caught a smaller branch. All stills/video were good -except the final video which won't play at all. I'm guessing there needs to be a proper termination at the end of a video clip. Will try to import the clip to Premier Pro.

Also how to use Go App to find your drone? Thanks in advance.
I have the Smart Controller, and added a neck strap, so I was able to keep the controller safely within reach as I searched a large area of steep forest with sections of impassable brambles. The screen displayed the last point of transmission from the aircraft (red arrow) -which I assumed was at or near the crash site. An "H" icon indicated "home" -the LZ. A blue dot indicated my current position with the smart controller -which I never turned off. Navigation was extremely difficult in that terrain, but the Go4 app was very accurate even in dense forest. If I had been better able to interpret the scale of distances onscreen, I could've located the site even faster. I was able to triangulate position using the 3 icons -as "H" & "<" remained static. Trust the app! Thanks for the excellent technology DJI!

This happened to me to. The official responce from DJI Support was " Unit obstacle avoidance cannot detect tree branches"

I knew that from youtube videos before the incident. VLOS is the key. Ignore at your own peril -as I did.

If the AC still works enough, power it on with the SD card installed. It will detect the video not having been closed and will properly close it.

If that fails, there are tools and procedures online to recover the video from the raw stream file.
