I'm also on 8.0 and the second to newest firmware with a 2 version old app. I don't think it is a happy combo as I am having problems with setting my home point so going to update app and leave firmware and see what happens. If no improvement am going to update firmware and if I don't like it I plan to roll back everything - so there dji !
