DJI Mavic pilots - Australia

OK, dug around the site and found this guide.

It sounds like the most of the coast between Princetown and Peterborough are all Parks VIC. So that would include all of not just Twelve Apostles but Port Campbell, Bay of Martyrs and Bay of Islands as well as London Bridge, despite what OK2Fly indicates.

Hmm, I may have to pay for one of those helicopter rides. I drove through the GOR about 7-8 years ago so I was thinking of seeing it again, with a coach tour. But I don't really look forward to a 12-13 hour day.

Has anyone looked into flying just outside Twelve Apostles Park?

For instance, the border to Twelve Apostles, the NFZ as defined in OK2Fly app, is approximately 8 kilometers east of Port Campbell.
The apps seldom take into account National and State Park restrictions. Fortunately Queensland is more drone friendly with limited or no restrictions in National and regional parks. For how long though…

I've only visited QL once. It is beautiful but I found the NSW and Victoria coasts more dramatic.

I thought the most interesting parts of the QL coast -- I've only been to Noosa, Brisbane and Gold Coast, were the area around the Noosa National Park and Burleigh Heads in southern Gold Coast.

Then again, once flying into Brisbane from the US early in the morning, Moreton Island and North Stradbroke Island looked beautiful from the air, though obviously we wouldn't be able to fly drones on the approach path to BNE.

I fully agree on the dramatic coastlines. Even VIC and NSW don’t compare to some of the coastlines, though, of northern England, Scotland and islands and the West coast of Ireland, my old hiking regions. But we do have some beautiful, pristine beaches in QLD and amazing rainforests to explore.

I’m just 20-minutes drive from Noosa and it’s National Park and fortunate to live within the southern section of Noosa National Park just a short stroll to the beach. Plenty of wildlife if you’re a bird or reptile photographer and whales too during their migration. But unless you like trees - millions of them - it’s not so good for drone photography. Look south though and we have the outstanding Glass House Mountains, Emu Mountain and Mount Coolum - all extinct (for now) volcanoes.

But for real drama you don’t have to travel too far inland for the dramatic red soil of the desert outback.

Yeah I haven't visited coastal Ireland, Scotland or England. On my bucket list though.

I've had recommendations to visit the hinterlands in QL but I would look at photos of some lookouts. Looks nice but a long drive if you're staying near the coast.

On my current trip I went to Budderoo Park, saw a waterfall over a very deep gorge and beautiful foliage all around.

Very nice but kind of a tiring drive, though not very far.

Bush walks seem popular in Australia and I appreciate going deep into the shade. Not great for photography though, because you lose a lot of light and have to use high ISOs.
