DJI refuses to unbind pre-owned Mini 3 Pro – despite legal purchase and repair

Every state has a process for obtaining a replacement or duplicate title or getting a new title for a vehicle without one or which has become damaged or lost.
My reference was buying a car without a title from the seller proving they actually own the car, it has nothing to do with a lost title… DJI also has a system if you, the owner of the DJI Account, have lost or forgotten your password…

And a drone associated with another account will also fly forever until an App Update requires a login to refresh the account (it has happened to me twice in the four-years I've been a DJI flyer…

But your remark, "A car will drive and operate forever without a title…" is not quite right either. If a person buys a car with the promise of a title coming in the mail, or just buys it without any proof of ownership will probably find that the car might operate OK for only the time left on the state inspection sticker and the sticker on the license plate… After that, without the title, that car is not going to get any insurance on it, the license plates are then expired and the first police officer that sees that car is going to have it towed and without a title to prove ownership, you are not going to get out of impound!

And your remark, "Some idiot thought it would be clever to backend customers into buying new drones if they could find a way to disable all the older ones in the aftermarket." Is dependent upon the owner not knowing or remembering their email address or password, is not much of a marketing ploy, depending on the customer's bad memory…

Ok let's make it easy. You go to ABC car sales and you buy a used car and you drive it home and the dealer never sends you the title. You call and he won't answer the phone. He probably doesn't have the title and the car is not stolen. Do you have a paperweight for a car? Who am I supposed to call, Toyota?

If you were dealing with Best Buy, when your drone logs off in 3 months after Best Buy is done with you, you have a paperweight because DJI will not help you.

If you take your untitled car down to the state, they'll create a title for you as long as you prove you bought it in good faith and the car is not reported stolen. Then you can register the car and insure it and while it would never stop operating in the first place, at least it won't get taken from you by the government.

If you take your disabled DJI drone to DJI and they have no report of the drone being stolen and they have not heard back from the owner objecting (because he is deceased), even if you have a valid proof of purchase (from Best Buy), they won't unlock it and they will leave you stuck with a paperweight hoping you will go buy a new one. Ironically, you'll have to go to the government to be made whole.

Apple will unlock an iPhone if you jump thru the hoops. They try to at least make sure they are bricking phones that are truly lost or stolen.
If you have the the original purchase receipt with the SN on it and it was never marked as stolen yes. That still means a large number of phones ending up as bricks and people buying phones they won't be able to use because the original receipt is lost/not transferred.
There is a procedure to request unlock of a phone not marked as stolen and without receipt but it's solely at Apple's discretion, requires the phone having been unused for a long period (IIRC 6 months or more, have fun leaving your "new" purchase of a used phone in a drawer that long) and they will often reject it, both from reports and my own experience.

If only all of us could live our lives like you do "on a hope and a prayer..." Go ahead, buy a car off Facebook or the corner lot that has a car parked with "For Sale" in the window. The seller says they have misplaced the title, but will give you a good price to sell it today and they "promise" to get youa a copy of the title in a day or two. Weeks later, still not title, and their phone is disconnected, so you go to your local DMV because "you prove you bought it in good faith and the car is not reported stolen." But as it turns out, it was not reported stolen but the "seller" did not own the car but had ony borrowed it from her "Babie' Daddy's Mother…" You are not going to get a title and the government will not make you whole…

Now, apparently you are not aware that is every survey ever taken the public was asked, "Who does the think is the most untrustworthy person is the world?" And the universal answer is always a "Car Salesman…."

And I guess you have never heard about all the scruples less car lots that take in cars in trade that are "Upside-down" on their loans. The lots never pay off the loans, and even sell the cars again, and they do this over several months to a year or more before the banks and loan companies catch up with missed payments and the when the aforementioned car sellers and car buyers try to file a complain, the lot is long gone and the salesmen are nowhere to be found…
