Has anyone had experience with DJI's self-heating batteries?

Usually I stick several disposable heat packs into the neoprene battery sack I wear around my wait beneath my parka. It works OK but is a little cumbersome.

So if you've had experience with self-heating batteries from DJI, please tell me what you think.

For what it's worth, I operate a Mavic 2 Pro.

All batteries heat up with use to some degree. I checked my Mav 3 battery temps after flying ... probably at -10F but I don't recall. Their temp did not appreciably change. I see little loss (some) of flight time at those temps but with smaller drones for sure it's an issue and for small drones with an exposed battery like the Avata 1 cold temps are a big issue. I don't know what "self heating battery" is...

Mavic 2 Enterprise self-heating battery

  • Temperature Range: Self-heating can occur when the battery temperature is between -10°C and 6°C.
  • Charge Requirement: The battery must be above 50% charge to activate self-heating.
  • Manual Activation: Hold the power button for five seconds to start or stop the self-heating process.
Mavic 2 Enterprise batteries can still be bought brand new and are 100% interchangeable with the standard batteries (you can use 'em with the bog-standard Mav. 2 Pro or Zoom). They average out at about 20% more expensive than the bog-standard variety.

The self-heating function chews some of the charge out, leaving you with a little less flight time. Using chemical hand-warmers does just as good a job.

Does anyone have direct experience with the self-heating batteries? I found a good deal on them and am looking for feedback on how well they worked.

Just so there's no confusion: I know standard batteries generate heat during use. I'm asking about the specialty DJI batteries that warm themselves by drawing power to heat the battery's outer shell in cold weather.

Thanks.

Yes I had them on a Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced. They seemed like a good idea at the time living in Montreal where batteries have to be warmed for 3 to 4 months of the year. However, they take a a while to heat up which was always a pain. So I stopped using them and found that just stuffing all the batteries into my trouser pockets before leaving the house (or car) works very well.
