Drone pilots refuse to be grounded by The Villages FL

would be police, government, private investigators and insurance companies. I don't know if any of you guys heard this, but insurance companies would fly over people's homes to see if their were any fire hazards or anything else that would give the insurance company cause to raise their rates.
yeah, we've heard about that

Take off someplace else and fly over The Villages if that's what floats your boat.

A jurisdiction can enact an ordinance or pass a law which forbids taking off and landing drones within its boundaries, but it can't regulate the airspace above. That's the province of the FAA. If neighboring lands outside the jurisdiction boundaries don't have similar prohibitions, and if the FAA hasn't published any restrictions applicable to those areas, then it should be legal to take off and land outside jurisdiction boundaries and fly over it in FAA-regulated airspace. No doubt private and commercial pilots routinely fly over The Villages in their Cessnas and 737s in compliance with FAA regulations and nobody gives it a second thought.

What sets drones apart from other aircraft (other than helicopters) is their ability to fly lower and slower, and to hover. Plus, they're usually equipped with cameras. Concerns about intrusive behaviors raise some folks' hackles and may prompt jurisdictions to restrict drone use.
Re: cameras attached to flying objects. Isn't it ironic that nobody bats an eyelid at the fact that the entire country is surveilled photographically 24/7 by domestic satellite tech:

That the Google Earth everyone loves is fuelled by commercial aircraft taking pictures from takeoff to landing... with enough precision to construct detailed 3D models of interesting buildings...

And getting down to more or less ground level: not forgetting the spiders web of terrestrial CCTV street cams that are sophisticated enough to be used for automatic facial recognition.

Before finally: at ground level there are the Google cars and Google walkers that will automatically immortalize you and your dog in glorious HD... but some yahoo flying a camera drone is automatically a thief, a spy or a pervert.

Interesting discussion on this situation as well as other applicable drone rules and regulations. It's an good discussion and although the video is a bit long, lots of current topics are addressed including the situation at The Villages.

People really just need to get a grip when it comes to the idea that drone pilots are spying on them. My adamantly anti-drone brother read me the riot act about flying these, and brought up all the " instances of peeping toms involving these ". Naturally when I asked for a source or reference to back up his claim he couldn't provide one.

Been to a "Voyeurs Anonymous" meeting lately?
It's all they can talk about! LOL!

I have yet to have any negative confrontations with the "Kens & Karen's" of Society on any drone situation, but I am ready.
Where ever I go to fly, I have the local Police Phone Number handy, give me a hard time, I call, I just don't have the time nor patience to talk nice.
A large segment of our population is brainwashed.

Good luck on getting the police to answer on a non-emergency line, let alone respond by showing up in a timely manner, if at all. Sadly, a large segment of our LEO departments are grossly understaffed and overworked, and would consider this a de minimus civil matter, not a criminal one.

They put up a no Drone sign LOL! I have a must pay 100 dollars to pass this sign sign in my yard But people still walk by for free.
Just seeing this thread now. I just wanted to comment in a somewhat related theme: that it irritates me when a city goes out of its way to harp on drones... and then turn around and replace a fireworks show with a drone show in the next minute.

My city did that, one of the city councillors went to social media to point out (incorrectly) that drones weren't allowed to be flown in the city (in reality he posted a screen shot of the air space zones for Basic pilots, which in Canada means no 250g+ flying in controlled airspace, which is the entire city). If he knew the rules, he would have known Advanced pilots could fly with airspace authorization, and the airspace didn't apply to micro drones (under 250g).

A year later... the same city council is now boasting about holding drone shows instead of Canada Day fireworks! I can't make this stuff up.
