Drones already a problem at the Super Bowl

Interesting thread. For the most part I feel I’m caught up on all the latest conspiracy theories.

TF

For anyone living in the Atlanta area.
Did you see on TV any FBI/FAA warnings about the No Fly Zone around the Stadium?
If yes, when did they start & did they repeat the message?

The reason I ask this is to find out if they tried to inform the Recreational drone pilots who are not plugged into NOTAMS.

I realize that it is dangerous to presume any level of common sense these days, but certainly new drone pilots found out when they unpacked their new toy, that a government entity known as the FAA is sort of interested in their hobby, hence the requirement to register said drone for hobby use. If the FAA is somewhat interested, it would follow that certain places are not a good idea to practice drone flying skills. Older and presumably (dangerous word alert) wiser drone pilots have at least a rudimentary concept of the airspace and would at least think to fire up an app like B4UFly or dare I say it, just Google "Super Bowl No Fly Zone" and find out what the restrictions are. Even reading at a third grade level with second grade comprehension should result in the conclusion that drone flying around MBS anytime during Super Bowl week is a bad idea.

It makes me wonder if those who told the authorities after their drone was confiscated and professed "I didn't know it was illegal" as a reason are individuals who would think it's a dandy idea to use an electric lawnmower as a means to give their hedge a flat top by picking it up by the mower deck, putting it in place and engaging the blade.

Your mileage may vary.

There shouldn't be a need to identify a restriction to flight for a stadium or sporting event because those are already restricted areas.

Stadiums and sporting events are first on the list and I would think the Super Bowl would make 3 of the five listed be;ow.

Not all Restricted Areas are permanent. My local college becomes a Temporary Restricted Area on the day a football game is played starting 2 or 3 hours prior to game time & extends well past the time the game has finished. You have to read the NOTAM.

This OP is in reference to the Super Bowl.

According the FAA linked in my post above, these are permanent:

Stadiums and Sporting Events

Flying drones in and around stadiums is prohibited starting one hour before and ending one hour after the scheduled time of any of the following events:

  • Major League Baseball
  • National Football League
  • NCAA Division One Football
  • NASCAR Sprint Cup, Indy Car, and Champ Series races
Specifically, UAS operations are prohibited within a radius of three nautical miles of the stadium or venue.

A simple search would have shown that.

“None of the confiscated drone pilots were Part 107 pilots” per the PhantomPilots post. Not to disparage non-certificated pilots, but why the **** would you consider flying around there at all (MBS is already a restricted area, all the time) but especially this week???

Is it restricted all the time? Is this a state or city law?

Looking at the chart it appears to be in class g airspace and flying is only restricted today because of the Tfr.

See my posts 48 and 52 above, pretty clear what the restrictions are for these type of events.

FYI, this is the actual NOTAM for Super Bowl Sunday around Atlanta.
Note it is a TEMPORARY Restricted Airspace.

I thought the comment is that this is a restricted area all the time. I was just clarifying that I believe this is only a restricted area when there is an active Tfr, typically on game day.

Exactly what I posted above. This restriction is always in place. It doesn't have to be posted in NOTAMS to make it restricted.

The TFR was issued because the restrictions were increased from 3NM to 30NM and the altitude restriction was raised to 17999Ft.

I apologize, I didn't know the meaning of Tfr (Temporary Flight Restriction).
Needed to research it I haven't gotten that far into my Part 107 training.
I learned something new.
Thanks Tleedom.
