Welcome to Mavic Pilots! :) Enjoy the forum!Thumbswayup

I got a Mavic Min. I've been keeping it close to the ground and within sight until I get more confident in my flying abilities. Today I have had two occasions today when I lost contact with it and it was within a couple hundred feet of me.
Hey Tennessee! Welcome! I fly a Mini too and love it.
East Tennessee is beautiful, you should have many opportunities to capture great photos and footage. Arizona, where I now reside, has great scenery too, but most of the state is desert and I really miss the lush GREEN of Tennessee. (and Vol orange, of course...)
Losing signal is heart wrenching! Altitude can be your friend at times. If you get above obstructions you should have better signal. Most of us advocate learning to fly the drone in open fields - like a football field or large park. If you are in a large, open field there's no way you should be losing signal from a couple hundred feet away.
Suggestion: practice "lost drone recovery." Use "find my drone" and learn how that works. Find your drone when it isn't really lost so you can do it comfortably when (heaven forbid) it really IS lost. Also, get comfortable with "Return to home" RTH. As you get comfortable with all of the tools at your disposal you'll take more risk - for more reward. Have a wonderful time with that Mini! Happy flying

Welcome to the forum from the beautiful woods of Maine!
SW-Drone-Guy is spot on, find an open field and practice RTH and different maneuvers at a slow pace and gradually pick up speed. Unless you plan to race your drone, you don‘t need to “floor it”. YouTube videos are helpful too!

Welcome. Its a very safe machine but it appears you're flying with caution which is excellent. Enjoy.
