Easy way / which App to save just the good bits?

I have over 500GB of drone footage from a recent trip that I would like to edit down to just the <10% of good bits. Please how do people easily do a rough edit to save many individual short clips from a vast number of long takes so they can be imported later into the final edit? I use a Mac and feel saving clips in folders by date would help me the most. Have had a play with iMovie and the other free apps but struggling and feel there must be a quicker way.
