Hello All!

I'm visiting the Dominican Republic next week and obviously, I want to bring my drone in order to get some amazing shots!

Has anybody ever flown their drone in the Dominican Republic? What did you need to do in order to fly?

I was doing some research online and some people said that you should get a letter of permission from www.idac.gob.do/
I sent them a request and they said to send a copy or photo of your identity document or passport so that they can keep it in their records. Is that normal? It seemed a little sketchy to send a photo of my passport through email.

Thanks!

I have flown around Punta Cana on 2 different occasions w/o any issues. I brought the drone through customs and was never questioned or had anyone state any formal rules. Last time was October 2019, pre-pandemic.

Good luck and have fun. That side of Hispaniola is very beautiful.

I had a similar experience in February 2019 when I took my Mavic Mini to a hotel in the Playa Dorado complex in Puerto Plata. I packed the MM in my hard sided checked luggage and took the three batteries in the charger in a lipo bag in my carry on Both coming and going, bag went through the x ray machine several times, no issues.

I was discrete when I flew - walked to a deserted section of beach for takeoff and stayed well away from persons on the beach. I did see several other drones being used while I was there include one being flown from the beach in front of the resort with security present and no one bothered the pilot.

I have several other drones, including a M2P, but did not want to chance losing anything more expensive than the MM, and was quite happy with the photos and video I obtained. Good luck.
