Interesting topic, thanks for bringing it up! I'm truly wet behind the ears in the realm of drone flying as I only received my Mavic Pro a few days ago. I did complete the FAA 107 online course for certification - as I already have an ATP under part 61, it wasn't too tough.
I live in Michigan, and from what I can find, the State regulations pretty much say to follow the FAA regs, and that no municipality shall pass local ordinances to preempt State law. Ottawa County most assuredly has ignored that, and it is illegal to fly drones in county parks, with very few exceptions. I live near a couple of those and was looking forward to flying the drone there - I guess I'll make some inquiries as to whose laws/ordinances govern what I'd like to do.
