Hi All,

Does anyone have any experience in flying a drone in Tanzania? I know about the permit etc. Wondering more about the customs at the airport, if they checked/scanned the bags and asked any questions?

Was it easy to fly around in general? Does it attract attention? Obviously, I don't mean national parks, just other casual not restricted areas.

Thanks

Bring about half a million T-shillings with you and you should be fine.

On my last of three Tanzania trips, October 2023, I elected not to bring my drone. I know I am not allowed to use the drone on game drives during the safari but I wanted two or 3 clips of the 2 lodges from above. Luckily the lodges each had a resident photographer at each of the two lodges, and they agreed to do a fly over clip for me and I was able to use it in my video.

Denizens of this forum are well advised of my numerous posts of my experience with KENYA customs in Nairobi confiscating my drone, and the three hours of running around various terminals before departing the country to retrieve my impounded drone (mini 2). It was a horrible experience, and my wife never lets me forget about it.

If you desire to watch my video, please just message me by clicking on my avatar and I will send you the Tanzania video.
