FPV Drones

I’m 70 and looking i to FPV flying to share with my wife’s for strictly recreation, don’t want to get a 107 license unless I have to. No problem with the other testing and registration for recreational flying. I was thinking of an Avata 2 Fly More 3 battery Combo. I’ve got .75 of an acre so room to learn how to fly around. That’s also one of the things I want to be able to do is surveillance of my property as it’s not all viewable from the house.
I live in Arizona and from what I’ve read I won’t be flying when it’s much over 100.
I was also thinking about the Mini 4 Pro 3 battery combo + googles which says it handles the wind better but it does have a lot of technology I don’t think I would ever use.
My question is with FPV goggles would the camera on the mine 4 pro be visually superior over the Avata 2?
Also do you more experienced pilots have any suggestions. Price limit $2K max, max, max.

The avata 2 would be an outstanding choice for you......Now by FPV what do you mean exactly just flying around checking stuff out with the Googles or "Bando", flying some gaps and doing flips style FPV.... with both of those the AVATA 2 is still your best choice..However: If you want to go fast and do tricks in manual mode your first Drone should be a SIM.
There are some things you will need to get used too, Flying with googles takes a little break-in time for your body to adjust. and if you want to fly manual, well that's a whole nother animal right there!
Get the Avata 2 You will be thrilled with it!

I would love to go fast, used to ride sportbikes but something has happened in my brain and I think going too fast could make me sick. Can’t watch drone racing on my iPad for too long. Thank you for your help now I need to figure out who has a Avata 2 c0mbo with 3 batteries available for sale at the best price.

I will caution you that for at least the first 3 times you use your googles you will get nauseous, It just happens and everyone goes thru it. There are those that never get over this its rare to not adjust, If after a dozen flights you are still feeling ill you may not be able to use your googles for long.BUT don't give up keep useing them!

Yea I’m sure it will affect me. I hope I can over come it but filming and watching is just not the same or watching on a screen you can’t see very well.

Just make sure you know, FPV is not legal (currently) without a spotter whether it's on your property or not. Would that stop me? I shall plea the 5th.

I have both an Avata 2 and a Mini 4 Pro. They are two completely different animals. The Avata 2 is crazy fun to fly. It's very immersive and with the reckless way that I fly, very exhilarating.

I live on 8.5 acres and use my Mini 4 frequently for surveillance. The Avata 2 is like a fighter jet, where the Mini is more like a helicopter, and at least for me lends itself better to surveillance work. I believe the camera sensor is the same on both, but the Mini is much better at still photography.

If you can afford it, get both

Occusync 4 has a slight lag that is not noticed by people not cramming the screen right next to their eyes. I don't notice it at all really until I get way, way, out there, and your eyes and brain will adjust sorta and the lag will be gone, But some of my Drone friends site the lag as the reason they do not use Occusync.

I also live in Arizona, Scottsdale. I live next to a private golf course and when everyone is done with play, I'll go out and fly/film around there as well as scout out Troon Mountain and Pinnacle Peak. I would DEFINITELY recommend the Mini 4 Pro with the Goggles. I put off getting goggles for years for my previous drones due to the 'lack of clarity'I experienced. I would just used my Ipad Pro due to my 63 year old eyes. The Ipad of course was stunning to watch due to it's high pixel count, but I wanted to share the experience with my wife and friends. With the Mini 4 Pro, I use the Ipad to fly and my Wife wears the goggles. Yes, you can use BOTH at the same time! Avata is too much. Do the mini 4 Pro. I need to wear glasses to read my phone, Ipad, computer ... but not with the Goggles. They have tune able diopters on the bottom area of the Goggles that work PERFECTLY. Clarity is out of this world. Just wait until your Wife puts on those Goggles. THEN she will understand why you are paying for this wonderful hobby.

FPV drones have a unique flying experience, with both technical challenges and visual shocks. I'm using a HS FPV Drone here, it's not perfect, but it's worth buying.

Well how things change. Wife doesn’t seem to be as interested as first thought so I bought an Air 3s. Preparing Dora the Air 3s and myself for our first flight hopefully this evening after the sun goes behind the mountains. Dora is registered and I have my TRUST. I’ve calibrated compass & gimbal, made adjustments in setting which I need to review 1 final time before takeoff.

I was addicted after the first few flights! FPV is such a great hobby with so many "goals" that you are rewarded almost every day.
First theres the Flying in manual thing, That takes many many hours of sim and real time to even get to the beginning stage!
Then theres the building....If you start flying FPV your wallet will scream for you to learn how to build your own soon!, and the first time your Homebuild takes to the air is pure joy!
Then theres the Firmware!That means you gotta learn BetaFlight. Once you start unlocking the Secrets of Betaflight, (everyone out there is still working on that one, except maybe Bardwell lol...) Then you are really flying!
The tech is getting incredible and even a home builder with some Basic knowledge can create there own Drones with all the features and then some.
The problem with FPV as a Hobby is the MONEY and too enjoy yourself each time you go out, you will need plenty. BUT FPV has gotta be some of the best fun I have had! (at least until I get my new RC airplane with the Air unit built) Then it will be FPV Airplane Time!!!
