Hmmm. I certainly hope the stick layout options work. It would be rather disappointing if they didn't.
Anyway, newb here. I've got a Mini waiting under the tree, and it will be my first RC aircraft. Can any of the old hands advise me on which control setup I "should" use? I was thinking about trying out various ones to see which felt the best, but I can see the benefit of just forcing myself to learn whatever the most common/accepted one is. (That way I'll have the best chance of being able to transfer my skills (if any) to a new drone/application/whatever.)
While I have no experience with RC joysticks, I do have thousands of hours of time on game pads! : ) In 1st and 3rd-person games, the controls are generally mapped thusly when you're just running around:
Left stick: Translates your position around on a horizontal plane. (forward, back, and sideways) This is your "move around" stick. Similar to a helicopter's cyclic control, I guess?
Right stick: Pitch and yaw, but pitch is reversed compared to an aircraft. (You press upwards to pitch upwards) This is your "look around" stick.
So, I could attempt to emulate those settings on the drone, but I'm obviously missing altitude control entirely. And on a drone, pitch and forward/back are the same thing, so that's confusing. Also, I've played many hours of flight-sims on a controller, and in those cases I do follow the stick-forward to pitch-downward convention. I'm not a monster!
Anyway, do you think I should stick with whatever the "industry standard" is here in 'Merica, or do I dare try to cobble something together that might match my muscle memory a bit better at first?
I guess the following would be the closest match to typical game pad control:
Left stick: Pitch and roll
Right stick: Altitude and yaw
