Global Tariffs blocked by US Trade Court

US China tariffs have landed at 55% tariffs landed against Chinese imports and apparently, that's a done deal meaning those numbers are not going to change from here.

"A White House official told NBC News that the 55% figure isn’t new, as it reflects the 30% tariffs Trump added this year in addition to pre-existing duties totaling 25%."

The president said he and Chinese President Xi Jinping still need to sign off on a preliminary deal, even though he called it "done."

Sad indeed, but it's hard to impartially discuss the merits of tariffs when their across-the-board imposition was a blatantly political act. The only justification we've been offered, without any valid supporting evidence, was that, in gangster parlance, we were being ripped off. We're being exploited, all right, but not by our international trading partners.

When the potential remedy for every perceived imbalance or injustice is touted as a "deal," 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue takes on the aura of a sleazy used-car lot. The recent, shameless display of Teslas on the grounds did nothing to counter that impression.

It's time to wake up, folks. Even an ostrich has to come for air every once in a while.
