Today it tells me it needs an update because of a mismatch in modules internally when I plugged it into DJI Assistant 2. It just hung at 0% so I pulled the plug after 15 minutes.
Used the remote, performed teh update but then I noticed a hot plastic smell - the MPP internal fan wasn't kicking in. I ended up putting a freezer block under it and using canned air to cool it off until the update finished.
It *still* won't kick on and I get this message in DJI GO4
Guess I'm gonna have to send it in...

I always put the heat sink up and a fan blowing air across when updating. Hope DJI takes care of you quickly.

Just weird how it's having issues when I had nothing but good from my MP (until it decided to try and eat the bridge).
In addition to the fan not working on the MPP, I noticed one of the front legs/antennas seems to be flexing - it looks like plastic fatigue. Good grief!
Good news is I got my MP running again last night! The motors seem free of grit and everything works as it used to.
So I won't be without a bird to fly f I have to send the MPP in to DJI.

The fan is obviously not turning on. Now it's a matter of whether it's the fan or the temperature sensor. It's easy to replace that fan if you don't mind pulling the top cover off.

I should add, there are a few guys that remove the fan completely to cut 10grams weight. You only need it for updates really or if you plan to leave it on while it's sitting. During flight the fan is not needed.

Did you buy the MPP from DJI? If not, you may be able to return it from where you bought it for a new one. For example B&H has a 30 day return policy.

Amazon. Only problem with returning it there is a cosmetic ding on the back when my son accidentally scraped it on a rock at a quarry I was shooting.
It's only 3 weeks old and the issue didn't start until this last update. It was very strange with DJI Assistant telling me there was an "inconsistency" with modules. The update just sat there with no progress for around 10 minutes so I pulled it and went to the remote.

That's good to know - it also makes me wonder if the fan has *ever* worked since I haven't had it tethered to anything for very long. Got it right before my vacation and didn't do any updates so I wouldn't have to deal with fallout on vacation.
I can say with authority that the fan is needed when updating! That thing got hot.

If you suspect an upgrade, have you tried downgrading?

I have an extra fan. Let me know if you need one. If you send it back to DJI they will probably charge you since it has some damage. You are probably right, that the fan never worked. It may be disconnected. There is a small 2 prong plug where it connect to the power board. I think @digdat0 has a youtube video showing how to do the battery mod, which one of the steps shows the removing of the battery connector and fan assembly. 4 screws remove the whole assembly.

Call Amazon. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Explain the defect issue. They may take it back.

I bought a Phantom 3 pro in mid april2016. Found stress crack maybe 30+ days after my purchase. The agent I spoke to commented on the amount I spent, my amazon history was good (not many if any returns) and in maybe 30 minutes they agreed to grant me a full credit on my credit card upon my sending it back. Even though it was past 30 days. So, it cannot hurt to try. Or, you could give up and deal with DJI support.

Keep us up to date.

Yup - I had my MP apart to repair so I know exactly where it is.
I would pop the top in a heartbeat if I knew that was the issue - but if it's a bad temp sensor then I've potentially screwed myself.
I suppose it wouldn't hurt to contact Amazon - all they can say is no.

Well, they won't know you've had it apart if you carefully remove the tamper indicator which is on one of the screws. It's just some clear glue covering the screw. Anyway, they shouldn't be able to deny warranty based on that.

Actually they didn't say anything - as a Prime member I just said it was defective and exchange.
Probably the best option at this point since DJI isn't renown for admitting any error.
So I have a new one coming in and I just have to pack this one up and send back.

The later the build the better. They are always tweaking the builds to improve quality.

The fan with 2 screws is 11.0g, and if it's gone you can cut some of the bracket away as well.
