I got tired of looking so forgive me if the answer is out there.
So I'm 2000 feet up on a small mountain and I send my Mavic down the side to the plains below.
I don't think there's an issue going down and it seems since ground is referenced to takeoff point there, so.... I'm guessing shouldn't be an issue coming back up?
But before I do it I'd like the definitive answer ;)

As you go down your elevation will start showing negative numbers. There should be no problem going back up.

Definitely no issue. You can fly as low as you want and it will just show negative altitude as you go down. I would reduce your RTH altitude a bit in case you lose signal, unless you have obstructions.

I plan on flying it with a Litchi mission so no worries on losing signal.
Just an FYI for Litchi users the mission hub can now export directly to 3D KML which can be directly imported into Google Earth. Saves a few steps.
