That is the Brick pit ring walk at Sydney Olympic park.

Back before we had the Best Olympics ever (and since ) this was a brick quarry, now it's home to the endangered green and gold bell frog and other wildlife.

This is a no fly zone!
Your location is within the approach or departure path of a non-controlled aerodrome (YSOP SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK)*.

You must not fly here*.

*Unless your drone weighs less than 100g, or you have a CASA authorisation, or you hold a remote pilot licence (RePL) and operate according to the procedures of the remote operator’s certificate (ReOC).

According to Can I Fly There, i can fly at Sydney Olympic park.

Restrictions do apply. This was checked before i took flight.

The pin is the approximate location of my takeoff point.

the wording is key here.

"If your drone weighs more than 100g, you must not launch within 5.5km of this aerodrome/helicopter landing site (HLS) IF you are aware, or become aware, that manned aircraft are operating from this Aerodrome/hls"

the key here is the IF.

If i am aware that manned aircraft are operating, i don't take off or if i am already in the air, i land as soon and safely as possible.

After checking other flight apps i was satisfied that, at the time, there was no manned aircraft operating in my area of flight.

Agreed that if i was flying in the vicinity that has been marked in red for YSOP SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK, i would not be allowed to fly, but as you can see, i was not within the red area for YSOP SYDNEY OLYMPIC PARK.

I hate to be the one to say this but go to:

Simmo,
North turramurra and beyond is quite nice as you go down to bobbin head and Cowan Creek although that is getting into Kuringai National park so would probably need approval to launch there
