Welcome to the forum! :)

Good morning everyone! Hi from South Africa. Have a blessed 2020
Welcome! I am moving to Pretoria in about 6 months. Any issues with flying drones down in SA? From what I found it seems like recreational users just need to stay XXX meters from people and significant structures but other than that you can fly fine. Seems like the rules are changing, but I can only find real restrictions for commercial pilots. Is this correct?

Thank you. There are restrictions yes. The CAA website is probably a good place to start. Though i am new to the game so more experienced pilots may possibly give better guidance. http://www.caa.co.za/Pages/RPAS/Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems.aspx

And you didn't come down to the coast with the rest of the vaalies for the summer hols? :)
?I wish. Went to the “bosveld”. Flying to northern kzn coast on Friday though. You clearly know my part of the world. Are you from around here? Will i have issues with flying the drone on the beach? Obviously not over sunbathers? Towards Ballito and Shaka’s Rock area?

I think you'll be far enough from the airport that DJI's software will let you fly. Still well within the 10km radius the government insists on but from my experience, at least here in PE, there's little to no enforcement of the rules.

The rules are a bit onerous. The one you are most likely to fall afoul of is the 10km no fly zone around all airports. DJI's software will let you fly in places you legally aren't allow to fly in.

Understood. Thanks.
