how big can this hobby get

I went from just a broken yuneec breeze sitting in the closet to being bored with covid and buying a MM Fly More in late April. Then a 4th battery, a landing pad, tablet and tablet holder, parabolic and yagi. By August the itch started needing to be scratched. So off to solve the problem with MA2 Fly More, then 4th battery, second tablet and holder and another pair of yagi. Now it's January and suddenly, I don't know how I swear, I also have a Mini2 Fly More, with a 4th battery on the way, a 3rd tablet and holder, a second landing pad just in case even though I almost never needed the first, car charger for the MA2, 2 extra batteries for my omnicharge ultimate with storage pouches for charging everything on the go, a heavy padded case for the tablets and a massive Tamrac expedition 7 backpack to carry it all. And just purely by coincidence, honest, that backpack has enough space for a M2Z or M3(?) Fly More in it too if a box suddenly shows up on my doorstep. Fully loaded my 8 year old can't pick it up. Maybe I need to invest in a Sherpa and his family to play it safe. Hi, my name if Mike and I'm an addict.

It all started off innocent enough . Bought the Mavic air 2 fly more combo. Came with a nice leather effect case that could take the 3 batteries ,the Drone , the controller ,spare propellers, the ND filters and spare sd cards . That was fine until I added a pair of strobe lights and another spare battery. Suddenly the nice leather effect case that could take the 4 batteries ,the Drone , the controller ,spare propellers , the ND filters and spare sd cards and strobe lights was becoming cramped , and things were getting hard to pull in and out. So I invested in a hard case with foam cut outs to take the 4 batteries ,the Drone , the controller ,spare propellers, the ND filters and spare sd cards ,and strobe lights. But then came the tablet I bought at Christmas for flying the drone. And as you know its not just the tablet , the tablet needs the collapsible tablet mount and the sunshade and the extra long usb cable. So now the hard case with foam cut outs to take the 4 batteries ,the Drone , the controller ,spare propellers, the ND filters, spare sd cards ,strobe lights , tablet with tablet mount and sunshade and extra long cable is stuffed , and i have to sit on it to close it. Sound familiar ?
I'm the same...but since I don't really consider it a "hobby" I don't have an issue with it. I consider it an investment into a new business venture to add to my photography business. :)

Look into "Editing with proxy files". A old computer can edit 4K (It will take the last step quite a bit, but that can be done while you sleep) As far as minimum why bother with minimum? :p Better to look at Price and what you can afford...Home PC or Laptop? A good Laptop is going to run you over 1K minimum (A good Gamer is 2K+) and that won't be optimal and you probably won't get a 4K display, which BTW you won't be able to see with that small of a screen anyway ( 4K Resolution Does Matter – Here’s When – Carlton Bale .com ) . check this link: Best Computer for Video Editing [2021 Guide]
I tried to read that link ("Best Computer for Video Editing..." About half the way through I suddenly felt nauseous. Waaaay too much information.

Ha. I can identify with this. Ordered a hard case on 6th Dec with bespoke cutouts for my MA2, a Pocket 2, the spare batteries, various tripod stands for the Pocket, the controller, filter cases etc. Due to export and import problems during Brexit, it only arrived this week. I’m really pleased with it, except that during the waiting period, I bought a Mini2 as well. So on the day after receipt of the case, I’ve ordered a new foam insert for the Mini2 and it’s controller and it’s battery holder. Must stop buying stuff!!

I see myself posting an identical message within a year. I just started this hobby with the Mini 2 fly more combo last month. I’ve studied and passed my part 107 (I’m US based) and flown weekly. Purchased a landing pad, which I no longer use since I switched to hand launch/capture, ND/PL filters, prop guards, phone shade for the controller, iPad holder, and fireproof battery case.

Lately, I have caught myself browsing online shops for Mavic Air 2 fly more packages, primarily for the ability for HDR, flat color profile, focus track, and my perception it will be slightly more robust in winds. Although the Mini 2 handles winds far better than I expected it to.

I’ve so far resisted adding to my fleet though. I most likely will wait for the Mavic 3 and will then buy yet another slew of accessories. Want to fully use the Mini for awhile before I purchase a sibling rival.

You do know you don't need to dedicate a tablet to a specific model, right?[emoji16]

Actually I feel it’s getting smaller. Too much regulation, more limits on where you can fly them. I actually feel like since I jumped on a drone, we are able to use them less.
Sadly, that feeling will be shared by many other drone enthusiasts in the future. Airspace will be seen as a valuable commodity by regulatory bodies worldwide. When drone delivery takes off in a big way, we can expect more and more restrictions.

You don't? Aw man! Actually it's because my kids like to fly with me too so instead of them fighting over who gets the tablet vs a small phone I just waited until the galaxy tab s6 lite went on sale again and picked up an extra. Then out of the blue I somehow had a Min2 for it. Now they just fight over the color of the tablet or holder. At least the girls do. The boys its more about who gets the fastest drone.

Can you advise the minimum spec on a pc for 4K editing as mine needs
replacing soon.
I am old fashioned and still use desktop computers. I recently upgraded mine with a AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 16 Gb ram and a GTX 2060 graphic card mainly so I can edit videos It is possibly toward the top of the 4K league(you do need a monitor that will take 4K as well). I was lucky, my wife’s company bought her a 32ins monitor for working at home. Over the top but boy does the videos look good.

I’ve gone the opposite direction and massively reduced my kit. Partially due to practical needs, and partially down to cover medical issues.

My camera bag used to hold a Mavic Air/Pro, Canon 90D and three lenses, two GoPros and all the batteries, cables, filters and kit to go with it.

Now I carry a Mini2 Flymore, an Insta360 One-R and selfiestick/tripod and a spare battery, and a LUMIX TZ100. I have one filter which is ND16/PL.

Life is a lot easier.

True, but a slight correction." Airspace will be seen as a valuable commodity" That can make good money from commersial concernes.

  • Haha
Reactions: A.O.
Landing pad, skins, solar charger, rain coat, floats, grapple, flame thrower, remote release, brighter lights, quieter props, a wheeled dolly to carry it all, a bigger drone, a bigger suv to carry it all.
Ah, yes. All too true.
