How real is the threat of flyaways?

Im new to drone flying and have recently gotten a Mavic. I have only been using it in beginner mode. I want to try to explore and go farther away but now that I have seen some people talk about flyaways, I am very apprehensive to let it get too far away from me. Afterall, soent too much moola on this thing to just have it fly away.

It's a very real threat if you try to take the Mavic out of the box and fly it right away without reading the Mavic manual and taking the time to learn how it works. The majority of flyaways are caused by pilot error.

It's impossible to answer your question since nobody has any stats.
But what's sure is that the distance from you is rather irrelevant, if it goes wrong it wll do so the same way if it's 10m away from you or 400. And that it's how well you understand its workings that matters most in doing the right things.
