the best option is rth, because if it will landing you will don't know if it safe under it, and also hover it is not good because in both cases if you lose the signal, you wil not be able to operate the drone, so my opinion is rth is the best option in case of emergency

For me the best option is hoover, once you are sure there are no obstacles for RTH, you just press the RTH button in the RC and process starts.

You could get try to regain control by aiming the antennas or get closer to the dron, but thinking again, having RTH as first option is better, having hover as main options is useful when you know you are going to be flying among trees where if RTH happens you might hit some branches.
