Back in 2016 when I picked up the original P4 I was giddy over 4K/24. After about 2 days of tinkering, I realized that I simply did not have the inclination to invest in a PC that could handle 4K video editing. Thus, 1080/60 was my life.

Two years later here I have the Mavic 2 Pro and find myself faced with the same dilemma. As a family, we sit 17' from a 65" UHD TV so the benefits of 4K are not quantifiable. So rather than invest in a new PC, I find myself once again dialing in at 1080/60 LOL!

Here's the clock tower at a local car dealership in 1080/60 edited in Windows Movie Maker. Yes, exciting, I know. Suburbia life.

A reasonable position, but not one I share, because:

1 Storage is very cheap.
2. I consider 4k a form of future-proofing.
3. My laptop has a 4k monitor, and yes, I can see the difference.
4. Even if you find 1080p good enough, shooting in 4k gives you more leeway in post-production for things like zooming, cropping, and so on.

Like you, I also don't feel the need to upload in 4K every time, but to me there is no doubt that 4K transcoded down to 1080P looks considerably better and more detailed than 1080P native. Although I'm with you on the 60 FPS thing, which is great for slowing stuff to cinematic speeds in a 30 FPS project file...

That's why I like the Autel Evo and P4V2 for their 4K60, which to me, is the most I'll ever need.

I don’t disagree at all. My challenge is simply the editing. I suppose I could test if WMM will render a good 1080 video from 4K footage. My laptop is 4K capable but I’ve got it loaded up with so much tech software that it’s just bogged down.

What you can do is get something like Handbrake, and do your downscale transcoding there instead, giving you quick-to-load 1080 files for the edit. It's actually one of the highest quality transcoders there is, and yet is nice and free !

I’ll Google and check it out. Thanks!

As above, i consider 4k future proofing.

I've never seen a 4K TV, dont know a single person that owns a 4K TV but will still film in it for future proofing AND most post options like stabilising and cropping.
