I just bought an E-bike

And heck, I rode one from California to Delaware ocean to ocean one time ...

I can barely make it across the county line. :D

Quite a trip! My longest bicycle ride was Galveston, Tx to Austin, TX.
Took 5 weeks and just about 3500 miles.. There was a group of about 40,I think there was like 28 when we finished. I was the youngest.. quite the adventure for a 15 year old! Dipped my tire in one ocean, rode to the other and dipped again!

Now that sounds like a neighbor who "detests" drones flying over his property.....

And how is that?
But I guess if the skies were full of drones nonstop without any concern for anyone else like the roads in colorado are full of bicycles you might have a point

It's probably all related to our points of view. I've often felt that the roads in Colorado and New Mexico were full of cars when I was on a bike! I guess I'd just like to point out that tolerance goes several ways - I'd hope some neighbors would tolerate drones that have a legal right to fly above their property in the same way I'd hope that drivers of motorized vehicles would tolerate bikes that have a legal right to be on the roads.

I apologize for drifting us away from discussing bicycles. I may have over-reacted to the word "detest" used to describe bikes on roadways.

Great weather here so my Mum was keen to get the e-bike out for a ride and we headed down to Loch Ness:

Even had a film crew taking an interest:

No I didn't see the monster but that's what the film crew were there for, there's a guy who sold everything, bought an old library van he converted to a camper and parked it up by the beach to watch for Nessie. The film crew were there to see him although he's not seen Nessie after many years of watching.

So, when I pre-ordered the Aventon Level on March 1st, they said it would ship April 7th. Well, it actually shipped April 6th, and it is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday (April 13th). I'm looking forward to getting it, and since riding season is just popping here in New England, the timing is good. Still a bit of sand on the roads here and there, but the salt is all gone...

These are pretty light

Cancelled the order in the end due to delivery times of upto 6-months and went for the Norco Sight C2 in the end. Not light but perfect for our bike tracks and gravel routes. Dual suspension too to ease the bumps on my troublesome back.

So, so easy to ride, very stable and rides uphills as if they weren’t there.

My Aventon Level arrived yesterday morning. It is all assembled and now has 10 miles on it. Sort of a shake out ride to test everything, and see what it's all about. In a few words, I would describe this thing as 'something from the future'.

What an amazing feeling. It's like having someone else pedaling as well anytime the speed drops below preset levels. I found that Pedal Assist level 3 zipped me along at about 23 MPH on flat ground, and about 15 MPH up moderate hills. This was with active pedaling of course, and my prior questions as to whether or not an E-bike can also be a good form of exercise have been answered. They can be, or at least the Level can be. My heart rate was up, and I could feel it in my legs. If one chooses to make riding one of these their workout, they can via only limited Pedal Assist. If one simply wants to zip to the store for something, and not get sweaty, they can use the throttle and not pedal at all.

I think the big benefit for me will be the assistance up hills to maintain 10+ MPH on hills that I usually climb at 3-5 MPH on my traditional bike. During the hot summer months, creeping slowly up a hill can be brutally hot with the limited breeze, but with Pedal Assist allowing for a higher speed up these hills, there is a bit more 'breeze' created, allowing for better cooling.

The claims that e-bikes don't benefit health seem to mainly come from those who don't like e-bikes as I've seen a couple of studies on e-bikes and they found they very much improved health because they found e-bike riders would cycle for long and more regularly than they did on normal bikes.

It's a great time to get the bike now the weather is improving and over the last year here I've noticed a big increase in e-bikes which is great, I'd much rather see people out on them than in their cars.

Wow, quite the thread. I put a deposit on an Aventon Adventure (Fat Bike).
Torn between a gravel type bike or the fat bike.

Perfect world ........ Buy them both

I absolutely love my Aventon Level. I have 400 or so miles on it, and what a joy to ride. The Aventure was released shortly after I got the Level, and it reviews well. You will enjoy it. Just be sure to tune it after assembly, or have it done at a bike shop. You will want to verify spoke tensions, adjust the derailleur, and maybe align the brakes. It's all stuff that a shop does after a box build, and a lot of complaints come from folks who just assemble and ride.

Exactly. I have some health problems that prevents me from going on long rides with a regular bike, but after I bought a Haibike last summer I have done more biking than I did in the last ten years. It certainly has improved my life quality.

A couple of years ago I bought an Orbea Gain e-bike. It was a lovely flat-bar road bike, and not obviously an ebike at all. Also, fairly light at 13kg (typical weight of a hardtail mountain bike). I had it for 2 days before deciding to return it - it wasn't a bad bike, just not the right bike for me.

The reasons for wanting an ebike were to speed up my 5 mile commute across town and hopefully arrive at work less sweaty. In reality I found that when I was moving I was above the legal assist cutout limit of 15.5mph for 80% of the time so the e-assist could only help me start off from traffic lights, or on the steeper hills. My commute time was less than a minute quicker than what I could do on my traditional bike, and I arrived just as sweaty. Overall, for me, the £1000 premium I'd paid to have an e-bike compared to a similar traditional bike wasn't worth it. However, For a quick blast to the shops or a more leisurely ride round the park or along the beach the bike was quite fun.

My personal take on ebikes is e-mountain bikes are great - you rarely do more than 15.5mph slogging up hills on a mountain bike so the assistance really helps and then you can spend much more time doing the fun part of blasting downhill. For road bikes the assist cutout limit of 15.5mph is too low to be of real use unless you live in a very hilly region.
