I lose signal (remote controller disconnect) at 3/4 mile. This is in a suburban area too.

He should test from a clear line of site like I did and see if he can get the distance . I have been on cutlines where trees cut my signal and I have had my distance as low as one mile . My buddy using his spark only got about 1100’ before he lost connection

Silly question, but you do know that the antenna should be vertical, right? Some people think the end should point at the drone. Quite logical, and quite incorrect.

wow u know what.... i never even payed attention that when i hold the remote in my hand it changes the angle of the antennas to horizontal. i know to point them vertical and when i first grab remote i point them straight up but that's with the remote held with antennas on top. when i fly i tilt the controller down so this is moving my antennas horizontal!

vbrilliant my friend! i never even gave that thought!!!

more detail, my starting elevation is 587 ft. I try to fly to my buddies house 3/4 mile straight line. His home sits at 607 ft elevation. As soon as I drop below about 70 elevation by his house on the drone in the air I completely lose signal. His house is a ranch so its not very high. Drone elevation is above the house. This is in an area where homes have like 5-10 acres of open land around them. Not very populated and trees are bare this time of year here cuz its winter. Just some typical power lines running to homes down the roads and people with wifi. Not much else for interference.
As a golfer, I can attest that even bare trees can stop things from passing through them. :)

I was surprised at the short distance I lost signal strength ( 1.5km less then 1 mile). I was over a lake but I guess the tree's cut signal strength a lot more then I thought they would just as I rounded a bend at about half way out the signal started to fade fast.

I believe trees absorb or scatter (or both) the signal.

Yes it appears that way. I wasn't expecting the trees to cause the effect they did. It happened a lot closer then I thought it would. In reality I can not fly it further then 500m or 1640ft legally without a spotter.

I have experienced the same thing. The only thing that worries me is the fact that with previous generation MP1 I was able to fly in a radius of at least 1.5Km-2Km with absolutely no signal issues. In MP2 the connection seems to be extra sensitive in trees, obstacles, interference etc.
